Summertime and the living is easy….unless you have small children and you’re stuck in Dubai – and then it’s pretty darn difficult mamas. We know how hard it can be to keep the little ones entertained when temperatures outside soar – and all we can say is thank goodness for soft play areas in which the kiddos can expel a little (or a lot) of all that energy. Tired of the same old scene? Take the minis to these 5 new play areas in Dubai this summer and stay sane mamas!

Extreme Fun

Located just above the  Union Coop (behind the Shangri La Hotel) in Jumeirah, this great play area has lots for everyone from toddling tykes to slightly bigger kids – AND a lovely little area for the mamas (or papas) to sit and watch their mine peeps having fun from while being close enough to rescue anyone stuck at the top of the climbing area (yes, it happens to us all). From birthday parties to classes, summer camp to monthly passes, these guys do it all – and because it’s lovely and new, it’s not crowded at all.

AED 45 per child per hour
Open 9am – 8pm daily

Kids HQ

Located on Umm Sequim Street (near the big tips n toes – handy?!) Kids HQ is a large adventure maze with slides and trampolines surrounded by a cool mini road car track. For children under 2 years there is a small Soft play area. There are also a couple of party rooms and a stage area which are great for parties and little productions. One thing to note – if you have teeny tinies with you then while the cafe offered comfortable seating overlooking the adventure maze, it’s unfortunately away from the baby soft play area. A downstairs retail area sells items from lovely little brands including Melissa and Doug (tempting – pretend to have left your wallet at home!).

Special offer during Ramadan is AED 45 for 3 hours per child.
Ramadan timings 9am to 5pm

Kidz Venture

If we were to design a play area, it might look something like this with plenty of natural materials, non over-bright lighting and really well thought out spaces and toys, this non-typical play space inside the DoubleTree By Hilton JBR has lots of different toys and puzzles in addition to the classics. We loved the amount of space plus  the super-cleanliness and over-excitement of our kids (the eldest of whom is 5 and youngest is 2)  – it definitely got their vote too mamas. Kids Venture also run regular mama or papa and kids meditation sessions (ohhmmmm), check out our events calendar for more info.

From AED 45 per child per hour.

Mini Monsters

Once you’ve managed to find it (the new Mini Monsters is located in the DNATA building off Sheikh Zayed Road which might sound easy but took some navigating) – this fab little play area is great for your little monsters and for mamas (the coffee shop is lovely – think shabby chic style furniture, very good coffee and a prime location just next to the play area but far enough to catch a a breath). Perfect for your pre-schoolers, there’s a cute little merry-go-round plus a sensory room that includes fibre-optic star lighting, a fluro-glow ball pit and touch sensitive bubble tubes but comes at an extra charge (hmmm). The best thing about this space? It was blissfuly peaceful so the kids really got a good uninterrupted play while we got our caffeine fix.

AED 50 for two hours (12 months to six years). Kids under one go free.
Supervised play: AED 95 for the first hour for kids aged two to four, AED 75 for the first hour for kids aged four to seven. AED 65 for each additional hour (maximum of three hours).
Sensory room: AED 35 per hour.
Mini Monsters Zone Package: AED 75 for two hours of play with access to sensory room and soft play zone.
Open Sun-Weds 9am-7pm, Thurs-Sat 9am-8pm.

Pixies and Ponies

Located on Al Wasl road in Wasl Vita Mall this cute little play area offers a large activity climbing area including a ball pool and a soft play for the younger children. For bigger kids an amusement area offers game consoles (but not much space for real running about). There’s a cafe with sliding doors so mamas can have a little quiet time while being able to keep an eye on the kiddos.

A creative table is available for your little ones to make, stick and paint – however this is at an additional price.

AED 40 per hour per child
Ramadan timings 1pm -4pm

Keep an eye on their Facebook page as they offer weekly promotions such as movie and popcorn days with free play.
