We’re doing the coco-motion for coconut oil – one of nature’s miracle products and a must-have for all mamas
As a mama of three small children, a professional therapist and now a blogger, I need to find fast and efficient ways to keep myself well-groomed and gorgeous from head to toe as naturally as possible.
Coconut oil is one of those simple treasures that have an enormous amount of benefits nutritionally (it’s full of all the good fatty acids that help with weight loss, in building immunity against colds, prevents heart disease and even yeast infections) and serves a wonderful all-in-one beauty secret to nourish and moisturise your skin while acting as natural sunscreen!
Here are five easy ways to use coconut oil (virgin, organic is the best) in your daily beauty for soothed, hydrated skin and hair:
1. Hair Treatment
Coconut oil is a superb hair treatment as it deeply hydrates the hair and even soothes scalp irritations. For an intense deep conditioning mask, apply a generous amount of coconut oil from roots to ends and leave on your hair at least an hour. For an extra boost of moisture, twist hair into a bun and pop on a shower cap while you get some chores done around the house. (or you can sleep with it on over night)
Have some frizzies? Rub a little dap coconut oil on your hands and gently rub through your hair to smooth it out instantly.
2. Body Lotion
Coconut oil is the perfect way to keep your skin supple and wrinkle free. It has a natural SPF 4 and helps to heal skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis and even eczema! You can use it on your babies and children for “massage time”…they will love it.
3. Eye Make Up Remover
Coconut oil is the perfect way to gently remove your eye makeup along with the added benefit of nourishing your delicate skin around the eye. Apply a generous amount of coconut oil to a cotton pad and gently rub from the inner eyelid, outwards for clean, moisturised eyes in seconds.
4. Nipple Cream for Breastfeeding mothers
Coconut oil has wonderful soothing effects for the skin and it the best “natural” way to heal cracked, irritated nipples for newly breastfeeding moms. Plus, it’s completely safe or your baby if they get some in their mouth while feeding. Rub onto your nipples before and after feeds as needed.
5. Body Scrub
Mix equal parts sugar (I prefer brown sugar) and coconut oil together, et voila! You have a totally delish body scrub that you can use in the shower to exfoliate your skin while hydrating at the same time! Take a shower as normal then keep your body wet while your apply the scrub. Rinse off with water only then pat your skin dry with a towel. Use once or twice a week to keep your skin radiating with natural beauty!
