The Sassiest Little Bedroom Makeover

A spring clean in my house means only one thing – decorate, decorate, decorate! I decided that I’d tackle my twins’ bedroom first. They’re going to be 2 years old this month – where has the time gone? I thought that it was time to give their rather dull bedroom a revamp, so who better to ask for help than one of our very own Sassy Mama contributors – the very talented Kath Hawkes from House of Hawkes?

Kath has just launched an e-design service, which made her the perfect choice for this project (that and the fact that she is simply one of the nicest people we’ve ever met). Her e-design package allows you to decorate a room within your budget and at your own pace. After a brief consultation on the colour scheme and style I was trying to achieve, Kath put together a mood board, room layout, shopping list and comprehensive installation guidelines.

So Kath and her team got down to business with a maximum two week time line. The walls were painted white from cream, the stripy curtains were taken down and we added bespoke white blinds with a touch of bright yellow, keeping the stripy fabric for scatter cushions and a bean bag (love a bit of upcycling!).

To add more colour into the room Kath added a bright yellow rug and sheepskins. The ceiling light was changed to bright red matching a large mirror which we painted the same colour. We added Marquee lights above the twins cot in an S and R (twins initials), replaced the floating shelves with picture ledges to display books and wall art and added a fabulous new teepee with garlands and lights which totally changed the look and feel of the room – all topped off by some perfectly positioned pictures.

The furniture in the bedroom hadn’t been changed since newborn days (changing table, small wardrobe etc) so we upgraded to a chest of drawers and a large 4 door vintage white wardrobe.

The twins (plus their big sister and mama and dad) love their new room – especially hiding in the new wardrobe and taking books into the teepee. Kath has created a little piece of tranquility while keeping it fun and playful – all to my budget –  and always with a huge smile.
