A Mini Guide To What To Do In Dubai This September!

The kids are almost back at school! And while that might be a shock to the system (6am wake up calls and 7.30am at the school gates…ugh), it also means that there’s finally a little potential for some mama time and for planning your next date night/holiday/weekend adventure. This month is all about getting through those last few sticky weeks before we can get back outdoors without melting, it’s about spending time as a family if you’ve been apart from the hubster for much of the summer (I’ve had the kids to myself for a looooong time which has been lovely as the picture above suggests but also exhausting and I missed my other half!), catching up with friends and getting back into the Dubai routine. And it’s about toning up and shedding any extra weight that crept on over the hols (it’s ok – that’s what holidays are for!). Here’s a little of what I’m doing and loving in September, mamas…

Booking…

Tickets to La Perle. Dubai’s first resident show opened in Al Habtoor City at the weekend and – in true Dubai style – is rumored to become the best show in the world (and for good reason, Franco Dragone who’s the mastermind behind it all is responsible for Las Vegas’s theatrical sensations). I’m talking 65 artists from 23 countries in a 90 minute live performance that includes everything from jaw-dropping stunts to aerial antics and an on-stage pool filled with 2.7 million litres of water. Wow. Combine a show with a meal out and there’s a date night with a difference. Tickets are selling out fast so hurry, hurry!

the journey kite beach reopening September

Anticipating…

The reopening of The Journey – a lovely little birdie has told me that it should be soon – hooray!! Don’t know what I’m talking about? Well it’s only the most amazing outdoor play space in Dubai (read the full review here…and watch this space).

Barrys bootcamp Dubai

Training…

At Barry’s Boot Camp. Hailed to be the ‘best workout in the world’ by many an enviable bod, Barry’s Boot Camp opened just before the summer and has fast become THE way to get fit and toned, fast. A 50 minute HIIT class that alternates between the treadmill and the floor, if – like me – you need high-energy, flashy neon lights and loud music to get pumped up for an exercise class then Barry’s is perfect. But it’s not easy (my sister says she ‘was nearly sick…’) so be prepared to work hard! And after the burn, there’s the fuel bar for shakes and smoothies to treat yourself with.

Ordering

Freshly made kids meals from Yum By Mum, a meal plan provider set up by 2 mamas who understand that sometimes taking one thing off your plate is all it takes to make your day feel under control! With over 70 different dishes made from a combo of veggies, fruits and proteins, all of their meals are made from fresh ingredients with zero added salt, sugar or preservatives and are so fresh that they’re en-route to your door just 4 hours after being lovingly made! I’m well past the weaning stage but they offer all the purees as well as meals for older kids – from fish pie to baked chicken bites – perfect for those ‘I need help!’ moments.

alserkal avenue guided tours

Touring

Alserkal Avenue. So you might know that Alserkal is home to fabulous cafes including Hapi and Wild & The Moon, that it’s choc full of art galleries and that Parkour DXB run their supercool little setup from this labyrinth of warehouses – but beyond that? There’s so much more to learn about what’s on offer at Alserkal Avenue so I’m joining a free one-hour guided tour across its many galleries and creative concepts at 7pm (or 8pm, there are 2 tours) on September 27th, starting at Nadi Al Quoz. To reserve a spot, email rsvp@alserkalavenue.ae – see you there!

oberoi beach resort al Zorah Ajman

Checking In…

At the Oberoi Beach Resort, Al Zorah – Ajman’s newest property not only has white sand beaches, azure lagoons and lush green mangroves but also kiddie friendly pools and play areas – oh and a ‘buy 2 nights get 1 free’ offer until end of September. It would be rude not to, right?!
