Visit Santa and play a game with his elves. Typically these tours are held every November through to end of December and including Christmas week. It’s very popular with families and especially smaller children.

A tour would begin with landing at Rovaniemi, capital of Lapland. An hour-long bus drive would take you to further north where you would get involved with elves in finding clues and eventually Father Christmas.

The tour includes husky rides through the snow and going to watch the Northern Lights. Staying in warm wooden cabins with fireplaces is a magical experience that children will always remember. You are provided with winter wear that is suited for the stay. I’ve had my clients that I’ve sent with children ages 4 upwards who have come back loving the entire trip.

Highlights of the tours:

  • 90-minute Reindeer experience
  • 90-minute Husky experience
  • Snow games with Santa’s Elves
  • Private meeting with Santa.

Finland destinations for Santa Holidays: Luosto, Lomakyla, Majatalo, Muotka, Lakituvat.

Duration: 2,3,4 night tours.

Visit the Sami people, stay at the IceHotel Jukkasjarvi, watch the Northern Lights, go on a husky ride through the snow. The IceHotel is a one of a kind hotel that is gaining popularity. Every year in February and March, ice is harvested, built into blocks and constructed into the hotel with a new design each time.

The inside room temperature is always -5C and you would manage with a warm sleeping bag. The hotel itself is part of larger grounds with warm wooden cabins, 2 bedroom chalets with their own fireplaces and a restaurant.

For families with smaller children, the log cabins would be ideal as the Icehotel may be too cold.

Last January, Kiruna saw the Aurora 24 out of 31 times making it one of the top destinations for Aurora gazing. Other fun activities include reindeer, husky and snowmobile safaris and a visit to the Sami camp where you can meet the reindeer.

How to get there: Flights to Lulea or Kiruna from Stockholm.
