Date Night: Bushman’s Restaurant & Bar

EatPost Category - EatEat

Looking for a new and exciting haunt for a precious date night or an evening out with the girls?  Bushman’s Australian Grill is the latest restaurant to open on The Palm. Situated in the luxurious Anantara hotel on the Eastern Crescent (we have our eye on a staycation at this beautiful property) the restaurant is a bit of a trek but certainly worth the trip. Aussie mamas, we think you’ll love this slice of home!

Bushman's BarOn entering the new eatery, the décor immediately transports you down under with a well thought out Oz-inspired interior. From the boomerangs on the walls to aboriginal art, Aussie money on the bar, ceiling patterns entirely made of corks and lamps covered by crayfish nets, the setting is interesting but tasteful and incredibly inviting.

The menu offers a mouthwatering selection of Australian sourced dishes, with starters featuring celebrated dishes including seared emu fillet, Queensland scallops and paperback smoked kangaroo.  The highlight on the menu for us were the tasty Moreton Bay Bugs (no not the creepy crawly kind), also known as Bay Lobster, which were light but flavoursome and an absolute must for anyone with a love of seafood. For main course, kangaroo sirloin certainly jumped out from the menu, but for those less daring, there were more familiar options available such as succulent wagyu beef and other prime cut meats prepared at the grill and fresh seafood including delicate barramundi fish cooked in charcoal ovens for a unique taste of the beach. The Aussies certainly love a good barbie and have got this style of cooking down to a tee – there is definitely an art to it!  Paired with one of Australia’s famed wines or beers, each of the dishes we chose tasted absolutely delicious.

Bushman's KitchenA visit from the Salt Guru is a lovely addition to the meal whilst being both entertaining and educational as you learn about the best salt to accompany your chosen dish.  For those ordering steaks, be prepared to select from a very impressive knife collection to carve up your succulent piece of meat.

The dessert menu is definitely worth a look – we couldn’t see further than the incredible signature constructed pavlova dessert, one of the most delicious and exciting dessert experiences in Dubai! This sharing platter concept was certainly the climax of a delightful evening as the chef proceeded to create a piece of art in front of our eyes.  Spread across the table was a beautiful display, featuring mini pavlova’s, a traditional Australian sweet, with refreshing sorbet, juicy mango, plump berries and swirls of decadent chocolate and raspberry coulis.  What more could you want?

Bushman's TerraceBushman’s claim is true to its word, presenting a menu with Bush Tucker recipes incorporating the spice and animal from the outback.  The restaurant atmosphere is sophisticated yet fun, and if you want a more relaxed dinner or to just enjoy drinks with friends, the bar offers the same authentic experience. This restaurant is a Sassy Mama favourite and certainly lives up to its highly anticipated opening.

A mama must try: The Bushman’s Billabong is the restaurant’s signature cocktail.  Combining peach, cucumber and Prosecco, the blend offered a balanced and refreshing drink to start the evening.
