Date Night: ThEATre by Rhodes

Dinner & Movie (…at the same time)

I suppose for anyone who is in the same boat as I am with 3 very small kids, getting out for a date night can be difficult! So the idea of dinner and a movie might seem a bit too leisurely…..(plus most of us would fall asleep at the latter?!) unless of course you do them at the same time!

Though not new on the scene, ThEATre by Rhodes had yet to make it onto my Dubai bucket list, and I am a little ashamed to admit it took an occasion (wedding anniversary) for my husband and I to actually make a booking there. But realistically at AED 160 per ticket, excluding food….. it may take an occasion of some sort to rationalise the price tag.

The thEATre is set over in a somehow quiet corner of the cinema with a separate sitting area where you are presented with a menu. The food is a kind of strange mix of things (popcorn, mezze, afternoon tea, a breakfast burrito) but that said, we didn’t struggle to find something that sounded good.

Once we placed our order, deciding on the burger plate consisting of three mini burgers and lobster and chicken Caesar tacos. We then went in to our assigned seats within the very cozy thEATre. It was kind of like flying business class: some shiny wood trim and a bit of privacy between large, comfy seats, plus a purple satin pillow and blanket.

Shortly after the movie started our drinks were brought out, followed in a reasonable amount of time, by our food. We didn’t have much interaction with the servers and the sense of sight was obviously missing so I wasn’t sure at times what exactly I was looking at, or eating, or if I was making a mess in the process (good thing for those blankets).

The food was good, but not amazing and of course much of your impression of the evening will be based on the movie itself. I would also note to choose your movie wisely as the content of a lot of movies isn’t actually appetising. Our total bill was AED 610 so for a special occasion not unreasonable. We also did see Mr. Rhodes there doing some food photos, which added to the experience.

It was a nice evening, I’m really glad we finally managed to find the time (and occasion) to do it. Date night sorted!
