The perfect antithesis to malls and high-rise buildings, the charming historic creek-side area of Al Bastakiya is one of the oldest residential areas in the city of Dubai. Dating back to the 1890’s, picture narrow winding lanes, ornate sand coloured dwellings built in traditional style and beautiful wind-towers. Bastakiya transports you to the days gone by and is a great area for kids to explore, learn and adventure. Tired kiddies (and mamas!) can refuel at one of the cafes housed in many of Bastakiya’s beautiful courtyards – we highly recommend the XVA Cafe at the uber cool XVA hotel and gallery which serves delicious salads, soups and sandwiches under the shade of ancient gaff trees. An array of ice-creams are perfect for keeping the kids happy and cool before their adventures resume.
XVA cafe is open from 7am – 7pm Saturday – Thursday and on Friday from 7am – 5pm
