2017 is all about getting healthy, mamas, and that means packing lots of veggies into our families! And what better way to do it than with organic, locally grown varieties from Greenheart Organic Farms?

With February being the month of lurrrve, our Green heart Organic Farm veggie of the season is the beautiful Black Krim tomato. Originally thought to have aphrodisiac qualities, did you know that tomatoes were also once known as ‘Love Apples’?! SO cute!

Greenheart Organic Farms

At the Greenheart Farm we’ve specialised in organic heirloom Tomatoes for the past 5 years. We’ve selected suitable varieties, trialled them, and collected the seeds from the best Tomatoes for the following season. Although initially yields were very small our ‘Black Krim’ Cherry Tomatoes are now one of our most successful varieties. This particular breed, dating back to the late nineteenth century, originates from the Crimean Peninsula colloquially known as the Isle of Krim, located at the Black Sea.

Why do we grow them?

These Cherry Tomatoes are truly irresistible, with a distinctly sweet, rich flavour that bursts in your mouth. Similar to berries, the anthocyanin pigments of ‘Black Krim’ Cherry Tomatoes offer an enormous range of health benefits as powerful anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatories, anti-carcinogens and anti-ageing (they support collagen production) … to name just a few.

How do you prepare them?

Simply pop them in your mouth and enjoy as you would strawberries. They are, of course, also great in any salad. Try them with a good olive oil, basil and garlic.
