YEREVAN, ARMENIA
This country has recently introduced visa on arrival for some nationalities residing in the UAE (for eg. Indian passport holders). Only 3 hours away from the UAE, Yerevan, the capital city is a great base to explore some of Armenia’s beautiful sights like the Khor Virap Monastery with the snow clad Ararat Mountains in the background. These mountains are the setting on which Noah’s Arc is said to have rested after the flood. Lake Sevan with the small but impressive 9th century Sevanavank Monastery should be on everyone’s itinerary as well.
It is common to see cars from the Soviet Era and public buses that are packed with locals as they commute across Yerevan.
LIMASSOL, CYPRUS
When in Limassol, you must try the Mediterranean Mezze and fresh seafood at the seaside restaurants. The little fort at the centre of the old town is very charming and there’s always something to do in this Cypriot city. Laze by the sea and take in a scrumptious seafood lunch.
Just a few kilometres outside of Limassol, you would find Roman ruins of temples and amphitheatres. Hiring a car is the best way to explore more as you can drive around to Paphos
MASAI MARA, KENYA
The months from June to September are the best to visit the Mara in Kenya. As the great migration of wildebeest and zebra pass from the Serengeti in Tanzania into the Mara, it is common to see these animals in their millions. River crossings are exciting to watch as wildebeest narrowly escape the jaws of crocodiles that are lying in wait for their yearly feast.
Take a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara that ends with a fabulous breakfast on the plains of the Mara, while gazing over the sun kissed horizon.
BORNEO, MALAYSIA
A rainforest covered island to the south of mainland Malaysia is noted for its orangutan population as well as world famous events such as the Rainforest Music Festival and the Borneo Jazz Festival that takes place in June. Base yourself in Sarawak and explore Mount Kota Kinabalu, visit local indigenous tribes and enjoy typical Malay island cuisine with rich flavours and spices.
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
Geneva is known as the city of peace and it really does feel very peaceful, especially when you gaze over Lake Geneva. While here you could do a chocolate workshop with Stettler Chocolatier, walk around the cathedral and to the top for a panoramic view of the city. The charming medieval village of Yvoire is a great day trip or you could take the cable car to the top of Mount Saleve!
Visit Montreux and take the vintage Chocolate Train and enjoy great views of the Swiss Alps and Lake Geneva.
