No It’s Not ‘Hocus Pocus!’- Essential Oils Can Be Used In Your Home, On Your Skin & For Your Family’s Health & Wellbeing

Did you know that Essential Oils can be substituted for so many harsh cleaning products, for expensive beauty products, to prevent sickness, to help kids sleep (um…yes please!) and so much more?! And that you can save heaps of money by mixing blends and not buying ready made products? Italian mama Elena (check out her blog worldwidemom.com) will be sharing all of the ways in which she uses essential oils in her home, starting with this little introduction and a special Sassy Mama recipe for an ‘uplifter spritzer’ for when you need that energy boost (like, all the time?!).

I started my Essential Oil (EO) journey about one year ago when a friend of mine moved from Dubai to Singapore and began to talk about these “magic oils” she happened to try. At first, honestly, I thought she was going completely crazy and that she needed something to overcome the stress of the change. I knew very little about essential oils and it all sounded like an “hocus pocus” to me. But, you know, she’s a friend and I wanted to be supportive so I ordered my first “Starter Kit” (a box with 11 so called everyday oils, to get you started, a diffuser and other samples).

I don’t know about you, but I often buy all sort of things with the best intentions and after some time (ehm maybe a week?!) they end up in a drawer and never get used.

This time it was different, I was deeply fascinated by my friend recount of the benefits and improvements she and her family experienced since they were using EO, and I really wanted to give it a try and help my kids get stronger and live a healthier  without all the chemicals we are used to have at home. I also felt I needed to try something different in my life to be healthier and less tired. I began to study and research to understand how essential oils work, how to use them and why they are actually effective.

Essential Oils are the highly concentrated version, obtained through distillation, of the oils naturally existing in and produced by plants. There is a wide array of essential oils that can be used for a myriad of different purposes. I do not want to bore you with scientific information but you may probably understand why they actually work: It’s simply chemistry. Yes, correct, just like the medicines you are used to take, but with one major difference, they are natural.

There are different attributes to each oil that are part of their chemical makeup and that can help the whole body wellness. We can use EO in 3 different ways: Aromatically, Topically and Internally (yes some of them can be ingested!)
After a year of using them I can comfortably say that these oils definitely found a way into my everyday life, and I love to share recipes, tips and resources to show how practical and amazingly beneficial they can be.

I diffuse them regularly at home to energize or to prevent us from getting sick.

I love to use them to help my children relax and prepare for bedtime or during homework. Through the months, I’ve learned to use essential oils to support nearly every system in my body from digestive to immune and respiratory.

I have replaced most of the beauty and cleaning products I was used to buy, and also saved a lot of money in the process!

(If you’re feeling excited and you also want to give it a shot to a healthier way of taking care of you and your body, I would be happy to share the products I use and how to start using Essential oils.  )

So, this is my story and I can’t wait to share all my “EO secrets” with all the sassy mamas out there!
