How To Do The School Run In Style
So, school run style. Hands up who wears their gym gear on the school-run but hides the fact that they don’t actually go to the gym? GUILTY!! Yes, I’ve done it on numerous occasions to cover up the reality that:
- I haven’t had time for a shower, make-up, hair, blah, blah, blah
- I can’t find anything to wear to portray the fact I’m trying to be one of those ‘glam’ mums at the school gates It’s the easiest option and you don’t have to think about what to wear.
- It’s the easiest option and you don’t have to think about what to wear.
Yes…you are not alone and I take solace in the fact that 85% of the mums on my own school-run are in fact all THINKING THE SAME. So, how to you go about being your ‘stylish best’ on the dreaded school drop-off and pick-up? One thing going for Dubai in that respect is the fact that we don’t have to worry about layers – as in coats, jackets, scarves, cardis etc, this time of year. But, we do have to endure an endless summer of humidity and heat, especially in the afternoons so trying to remain ‘less sweaty’ and keep tempers at bay when it comes to school parking along with trying to look glam and cool is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
Here’s where I come in to offer some advice, to make it less painful but more importantly – to look stylish, because as we all know that when you LOOK good, you FEEL good.
My top tips:
Preparation is KEY – plan your outfit the night before. Lay it out on ‘that’ chair in the bedroom we all have which becomes a clothes horse so you can easily just pop it on in the morning without thinking.
A cool pair of trainers such as Converse or Veja’s – instantly inserts the ‘Cool Mom’ status and can be worn with everything.
Pop a colourful kimono over a white or gray vest top with denim jeans or shorts – it’s a nice cover-up and adds a pop of colour to your outfit.
A jump-suit or play-suit is an instant outfit in one – no need to think about a top or bottom part. Easy, simple and fun.
Midi-length dresses or skirts (as opposed to maxi length) are perfect for our climate in the Middle East, they look great teamed with sliders or trainers and a statement tee and you avoid awkwardly tripping over the material which I’ve done a couple of times whilst wear maxi-dresses.
