Our Fashion Contributors Top Picks For Autumn/Winter Trends 2017
Let’s be honest…living in the UAE in year-round sunshine with most of the year basked in a warm summer climate doesn’t exactly remind us to start getting our Autumn/Winter wooly knits out from the back of the cupboard and start thinking of a new season wardrobe or does it? I mean, its almost November and I’m still going around in flip-flops, playsuits and bardot style tops and dresses whilst complaining of feeling like a ‘sweaty-mess’ at 2pm during the school-run.
But its happening people, in fact…it has happened. Autumn/Winter fashion has arrived and whilst we cannot even imagine donning a big heavy knit, over-the-knee boots, polo-neck or layers right now in this never-ending summer here…it’s nice to dream.
So without further ado, here are my top trends for Autumn/Winter 2017.
Stylishly yours,
Irene xoxo
If you haven’t noticed already, red is THE colour of the season, basically red is the new black. When sporting this ‘hot’ (pardon the pun) trend…remember to stick to simple silhouettes as the drama is in the colour.
I’m a massive ‘granny-cardi’ fan. In fact, the chunkier, the bigger, the more cosier – the better. I reckon theres like a week in January in Dubai where I’ll get some good use out of one. Team with leather, PVC and clinch it in at the waist for added affect. Plus don’t just buy black – your cardi needs to make a statement this season.

If there was ever a ‘cool’ time to wear Prince of Wales check or any other ‘hertitage’ check for that matter,it’s NOW! In fact, I would go as far to ask is Prince of Wales the new Gingham? Seen on everything at the moment from blazers, trousers and power suits to bardot tops and kitten-heels, this print ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.
I know what you’re thinking, velvet belongs in the cold Northern Hemisphere and is usually only seen around Christmas. Well – not anymore. In fact I’m currently going through a bit of a velvet obsession myself and yes I plan to be all over it from now until Christmas. Plus, if it’s good enough for Olivia Palermo…

Ok, without that image of Ross from Friends in the episode where he’s trying to put those PVC leather trousers back on, this is quite a wearable trend ha, ha. I’m thinking a skirt may be more suitable to the climate in this region…you probably wouldn’t need a box of talc powder to accompany you? If it’s all a bit too ‘plastic-fantastic’ for you….you can keep this look subtle by adding some high-shine accessories instead.
Truth be told, I don’t think I’ve worn a pair of corduroy trousers since the 90’s…when they also had a slight come-back and weren’t just resigned to middle-aged Geography teachers! But yes, corduroy is back and every street style blogger who knows her worth was championing this comeback at the latest Fashion Weeks around the globe. Fear not though the ‘new look corduroy’ works best for this season in blush pink, terracotta and teal – so you know what to look out for whilst trend shopping.
Bidding you a fashionable farewell until next time when I’m back picking out some of my fav and current pieces from another fab online retailer.
