Tis the season, mamas! Perfect winter evenings call for dinners al fresco and there’s nothing nicer than having your morning cuppa outdoors or barbecuing for family weekend lunches. At this time of year your garden or outdoor space becomes an extension of your home so you want to make it gorgeous! My teeny garden looked more bedraggled than beautiful after the summer (and my dog!) took its toll.
But with limited budget for anything major plus zero time and even less inspo, I’d resigned myself to a less-than-perfect outside space – that is until I found interior designer and mama Emma Hutton whose ‘House Doctor’ service is all about helping you tweak your furniture/accessories plus making small adjustments for maximum impact. And even if you rent or you don’t have pots of cash to throw at an all out overhaul, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways to make your home/garden pretty and functional – and that’s exactly where Emma comes in!
Before:
On a mission to revamp my space, Emma arrived for an initial consultation and to have a look at the garden furniture I already owned. From here, she came up with suggestions on where I could place the table/eating area and the outdoor sofa (she has a knack for simple rearrangements of your furniture and moving pieces around) and later emailed me with a mood board and suggestions on how to freshen the area up on a budget before getting the go-ahead, sourcing really lovely accessories at fabulous prices and then installing everything.
After:
With a chic new colour palette, a few easy tricks and swaps plus visits to Satwa, ACE Hardware and a few budget friendly places she keeps up her sleeve, Emma’s creativity created the most magical little outdoor area – and all without crazy costs.
