Jumeirah Fishing Harbour – Our Charming Neighbourhood

JUMEIRAH HARBOUR DCG

Yesterday, I finally made it to the much talked about and newly developed Jumeirah Fishing Harbour. This lovely spot is actually part of a project started back in mid-2008, the development of three harbours — Jumeirah 1, Umm Suqeim 1 and Umm Suqeim 2 – with the aim to bring Dubai’s back ancient trade and cultural roots. By reviving more centrally located fish markets and the traditional fishing heritage, the harbour improves the lives of fishermen and creates new neighborhood retail outlets with cafés, restaurants, majlis, prayer halls and recreational facilities.

We loved wandering around looking at the boats and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere and look forward to trying out the newly opened cafés and restaurants inside Al Souq and more down the jetty facing the waterfront. Here’s a little selection of what’s on offer…

Bait Misk is a Lebanese Restaurant that serves a selection of mezze and authentic of Lebanese food inside the Al Souq complex. The decor is cosy, mainly in wood and stone with a rustic feel and a sea view over the harbour.

Boteko Brasil brings traditional Brazilian treats to Dubai. Cute little café, serving a homemade variety of pot pies, hot savouries, sandwiches, sweets, candy, cakes, chocolate, juices and delicious coffee in a pure Brazilian style setting. Down by the jetty facing the waterfront.

Mint Leaf, located inside Al Souq, is a bright and elegant well decorated Indian restaurant that looks very attractive. The menu is also appealing, offering a classic selection of Indian dishes. Look forward to trying it out!

Omnia Gourmet Launched by Dubai “celebrity Chef” Silvena Rowe. This adorable looking café-deli is another favorite on my list to try out. The concept is farm-fresh, healthy food with local organic ingredients. After looking at the menu, I have no doubt this cute neighborhood deli café will be a success – the decor is also fab and fresh with an indoor courtyard feel. I look forward to trying Silvena’s “super healthy” food with “super ingredients” like Chia Seeds, Acai powder, Hemp Seeds, Pomegranate, Goji… but also the decadent (but still healthy!) desserts!

On the jetty, make sure to check out other restaurants as well: Charm offers Thai cuisine and Sea More Café is a quaint coffee shop with a small food selection. The fish market itself will be a reason to visit the harbour to buy the freshest catch of the day.

Located on Jumeirah Beach Road, the fishing harbour is easy to find, just pass Mercato mall on your left hand side, pass two traffic lights down and turn right (there’s also parking right inside the gates). See here.

Happy adventuring mamas!
