What’s Hot In Dubai This September!

The kids are back at school! And while that might be a shock to the system (7.30am at the school gates… ugh), it also means that there’s the potential for some mama time; for planning your next date night/holiday/weekend adventure, and for getting your home sorted after the summer. This month is all about getting through those last few sticky weeks before we can get back outdoors without melting, it’s about catching up with friends and getting back into the Dubai routine. And it’s about shedding those few pounds that crept on over the hols! Here’s a little of what I’m doing and loving in September, mamas…

Standup paddle boarding in Dubai on Kite Beach

Losing…

Weight! Okay, so maybe toning up is a better way of putting it – after a few weeks of very little exercise and huge amounts of food (come on, you can’t go to France and not eat your body weight in cheese and bread each day), my clothes are feeling a little snugger than I’d like. Early weekend mornings I’m renting a Stand Up Paddleboard on Kite Beach – only AED 50 per hour and surprisingly good exercise (you work your core muscles trying to stay on board) plus good for the soul. The kids love to have a ride too. At 6am on Thursday mornings, Urban Energy Fitness are running swim fitness at Black Palace Beach. If I can convince the hubby to get the kids sorted for school then I’m there, working out in the water as the sun rises. And then there’s the big challenge, a ladies only bootcamp in Al Quoz by Get Fit Chick; 8 weeks of workouts and nutrition guidelines that promise mega results. Sounds scary but if it guarantees a bikini bod, then I’m doing it!

Interiors store in The Courtyard Al Quoz

Fixing…

Up the house. With overseas visitors already booking in to stay plus tatty old furniture that needs replacing (courtesy of my three little rascals), I’m all over the newly released 2017 IKEA catalogue and its slogan of “Goodbye expectations. Hello you!. It’s ok it’s okay to have mismatching chairs, to double up your sofa as a spare bed and to throw a dinner party without the need for swanky silver. As usual, a recent trip to the store meant buying up loads of stuff that I didn’t really need (but love nonetheless). Read our interior contributor Kath’s top picks from the new catalogue for some inspo, mamas. And for the most beautiful bespoke homeware that combines a hint of bohemia with coastal style, head to Tribe in the Courtyard, Al Quoz and be prepared to fall head over heels with everything from handmade, fair-trade rugs to furniture, decor and lighting. For quirky little gifts and home accessories, check out lobo and that combines bright colours and patterns with designs taken from life in the UAE (I love their camel patterned mugs and trays).

Outlet Village Mall Jebel Ali

Bagging…

A bargain at the new Outlet Village Mall in Jebel Ali, a whopping space designed to feel like you’re wandering through the stunning Tuscan medieval town of San Gimignano and offering mega discounts on brands including Maje, Sandro, BCBGMAXAZRIA and more plus great dining options, it’s a winner! For designer kids wear with a (slightly) reduced price tag, check out The Luxury Closet’s new kids section and browse through preloved or discounted kiddie brands (if only that Dolce & Gabbana white printed dress came in a large size).

Indoor rainforest city walk Dubai

Playing…

At The Green Planet in City Walk, an amazing tropical rainforest right here in Jumeirah! This indoor paradise not only houses the most gorgeous exotic flora and fauna but also all sorts of creatures from sloths to snakes, parrots to porcupines and loads more, the perfect place for kids to learn about the important role of rainforests and get that oft-craved dose of green in our desert city. I’m also planning a family outing to the epic new IMG Worlds Of Adventure, the world’s largest indoor theme park located between The Villa and Global Village on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. It’s divided into 4 areas: the Marvel Zone that looks like the streets of New York City and features all our fave comic book characters, a dinosaur themed Lost Valley area, the Cartoon Network Zone and the IMG Boulevard for all the foodie options and shopping.

Making a positive difference in the community

Reading…
