There’s nothing like discovering the best of your city through the eyes of the people who live there. Our Little Black Book series will share a little inspo from those in the know.

Helen Farmer is a mama of 2 gorgeous girls and an uber successful blogger (check out themothershipdxb.com for a very honest and fun take on parenting and living in the UAE). Having lived and worked in Dubai for over 10 years, Helen knows a thing or two about what makes this city tick – plus she met her hubby Nick here so has a very special love for our desert city! This is her little black book.

  1. Describe your perfect Friday in Dubai

A big breakfast with friends, then a few hours of swimming (we love Privilee for a choice of hotel pools), home for a group nap then the Dinosaur Park and Glow Garden before a night at Dubai Opera.

  1. Most beautiful spot in/around the city

We’re lucky enough to live close to the beach track, and there’s nowhere better to have a stroll at sunset, watching the kite surfers.

  1. Something on your bucket list that you haven’t got round to doing yet

I’m determined to stay at Zighy Bay before we leave Dubai – it looks incredible!

  1. The best cup of coffee

I don’t drink coffee. Even with a newborn baby. I know – I’m an idiot. The detox tea at Bystro is lovely though.

  1. Favourite restaurants

We had our wedding celebrations at La Petite Maison, so it will always be special to me, but for more casual nights out I love 3 Fils at the fishing village, neighbourhood Mexican Maria Bonitas and takeout from Biryani Pot.

  1. Hidden gem

We’re often at Al Khazzan Park, opposite City Walk, to go on the swings before lunch at Inn The Park. It’s like a little oasis in the city.

  1. If you need a party outfit you’ll go to…

Cos is flattering for the post-baby body! Any new mama will tell you that as long as you have a good black dress then accessories will do the hard work/distract from the mama tum – & Other Stories in Dubai Mall is great for eye-catching jewellery.

  1. And where do you go to kit out your kids?

Mamas & Papas for sleepsuits, Gap for basics, Ismee for fun prints and Snapper Rock for swimwear.

  1. Where do you go to get fit and get pampered?

Mani-pedis at The Nail Spa, waxing at Sisters Beauty Lounge at Village Mall (Lily is the perfect combination of friendly and businesslike) and I’ve started training with Urban Energy Fitness, doing swim sessions and post-natal circuits.

  1. Best things you’ve done in Dubai to date?

Would it be cheesy to say meeting my husband?! Otherwise, a hot air balloon ride over the dunes was stunning. A real must-do.
