One of Dubai’s best kept secrets is that it’s a runner’s haven during the winter months. As soon as the summer heat lets up, runners of all abilities come out in force to enjoy a variety of races across the Emirate. So whether you’re looking to get back in shape after a summer of travel or just looking for an opportunity to try something new, here are six races not to miss this season.

ABRaS Mina 10K & 3K Series (October 30, January 8, March 25)

This race series, hosted by the ABRaS running club, is held on the grounds of the Meridien Mina Seyahi and Westin hotels. If you’re looking for a race with a view, this is it. The scenic course takes runners on the Marina quay, through the grassy gardens, and alongside the hotel’s pristine beaches. This year’s series kicks off in late October, followed by the same races in January and March of 2016.

Dubai Holding Women’s Run (November 6)

Looking for something different? This 5K and 10K race, held in scenic Mamzar Park, is a comfortable, ladies-only race that caters to all abilities. Race organizers hope this annual race will “motivate and inspire women to come set the pace.”

The Donut 10 (November 20)

Having a hard time staying motivated? Maybe a donut will get you off the couch. All finishers of this 16K (10-mile) race are treated to donuts at the finish line, along with an iconic camel-shaped medal. This popular race, hosted by the Mirdif Milers running club, winds through scenic Mushrif Park in Mirdif.

Johnson Arabia Dubai Creek Striders Half Marathon (December 4)

Who knew that the ‘World’s Most Beautiful Half Marathon’ takes place in Dubai? This well organized 21K race, hosted by the Dubai Creek Striders running club, takes runners over, under, and around the Dubai Creek.

Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon (January 22)

Don’t miss this year’s iconic Dubai Marathon. Drawing runners from around the world, the race starts at Umm Suqueim, under the shadow of the Burj Al Arab, and makes its way across Dubai. Not ready for the marathon? There’s also the popular 10K as well as a 4K Fun Run held on the same morning.

The Salomon Wadi Bih Run (Late January/Early February 2016)

Looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of city living? This 72K relay race takes place in the rugged and gorgeous Wadi Bih Canyon, taking runners from the east coast of the Musandam Peninsula in Oman up 1000m into the Hajar Mountains. Teams of five take turns running stages of 1.5K to 4.5K while their support vehicle transports the other team members along the course. Feeling adventurous? You may also run the race solo at either 30K, 50K or 72K.
