I just got back from a rather emotional visit (tantrum galore…) to one of my favourite kids salons in Dubai and honestly thought to myself; I owe it to the lovely ladies at Kiddocuts to spread the word after what my son put them through this afternoon.
This cute little salon hides out on the 1st floor of the quiet little J3Mall on Al Wasl Rd. This is one of those malls in Dubai that you drive by thinking, what is that and what’s inside? There really isn’t all that much exciting stuff going on at J3 (why oh why did they close the soft play area there – it was ideal!) apart from a decent Choitrams, a Coldstone Creamery (guilty pleasure) and a Jonny Rockets burger joint so I’d be inclined to say that Kiddocuts pretty much is the best thing about J3 unless you’re on a junk food mission. And it really is a very cute, well–equipped and decently priced kids hair salon. The two lovely ladies who work there really know how to trim your tot’s locks, even if he or she if fighting the cut with all they’ve got– and this mama should know. I personally like that they don’t automatically assume that you want the shortest, crew-cut-style look possible for your little boys and that they actually ask what you want your child to look like. Unlike some places that just bring out a trimmer and let it be done with- leaving your mini looking more like a criminal than a toddler – waaaahhh!
Little clients get to watch Tom & Jerry (or whatever else they fancy) on the built-in screen in front of them while getting their new “do” done. As we all know, sitting still significantly adds to the successful outcome of a haircut, which is why I can’t for the world of me understand how the lady today managed to make little E’s hair look not only presentable but also exactly as I instructed. He was literally wriggling, screaming crying and waving his little hands, all to the sound of I DON’T WANT. Recognise that scenario mamas?
Apart from today’s little setback, each time we go my boys quickly drift into Disney-la-la-land, while mama chills out on the sofa with a mag. The ladies have endless (yes, it was tried and tested today) patience, get the job done quickly and leave you with a little monster looking just as nicely groomed as you know he or she isn’t. A hair cut will set you back AED50 and the fifth visit is free when you pick up a loyalty card and collect your stamps.
So if you are in the area with a little person whose locks have gone wild, pay these ladies a visit – they have some seriously snappy scissor skills and the patience of saints and – in my opinion – they deserve a medal.
