It’s almost that time of year again mamas – the summer holidays are coming to an end (sigh) and the kids are heading back to school (hooray!). Mamas, you know the drill, back to school means that the kids are likely to come home with a sniffle or two within a few days – and before you know it the whole family will be battling a bug. Loved by our Sassy Mama Dani’s daughter Amara, these cute and simple backpacks are a great option for packing in books for school. Each one comes with an adorable illustration on the front whether your kid is partial to Amara’s ladybird one above or maybe the owl, robot or ice cream versions as well. While we don’t think many other kiddos will be out rocking these bags, you can get them customised with your kiddo’s name (just in case!). Gap’s really upgraded their back to school offerings this season with sweet floral and marbled navy packs. Big enough to carry your children’s seemingly endless school supplies, it’s got a few extra pockets as well for you to sneak some goodies in.

How cute are these little lunch boxes?! This adorable South African brand is available over at Little Majlis and this bag is a great option for the tots, with a little strap so they can carry it separately. There’s a temperature controlled lining inside as well and loads of different colours and patterns you can peep at here.

SMASKA Lunch Box
While we have absolutely no idea what SMASKA means, we’re totally in love with this adorable lunch box. It’s super affordable and big enough to stick a good lunch in, plus the little dog face and ear flap catches are too cute. Plus, it means another trip to Ikea which is always a great day out in our books…

Spencer and More Bento Boxes
Squeeze in a lunch the other kids’ll be envious of with Pottery Barn Kids’ Bento Box containers! Inspired by the Japanese panelled lunch boxes, they come in loads of different colours and are perfect for keeping food organised and tidy. (A mama’s dream!)
Store and More Containers
Lakeland’s easy to use Store and More Containers are mama’s godsend. The kiddos are going to be running around their pack on, so these air and watertight lunch boxes are a great way to avoid any of those awful schoolbag spills. Microwave, oven and freezer safe, it’d take a nuclear bomb to knock one of these babies out. Plus once the littles have finished chowing down, they collapse down to save space which is pretty neat.

Yep, that’s not a soda pop can mamas – it’s a water bottle! There’s a little opening for a straw and vacuum insulation, plus they come with adorable little illustrations that we’re totally in love with. Made from steel, they’re pretty easy to clean and small enough that they don’t take up a lot of space in their schoolbag.

If your tot’s glued to the screen every time Ben 10 appears, they’ll be able to show off their love of the show at school with this swanky water bottle. With a fun carabiner to clip it onto your child’s backpack and even a carry bag, your kiddos will be reaching for a bit of water once all the crime fighting’s done for the day.

Marvel’s doing pretty well with the merchandise proceeds at the expense of mama’s wallet and this pencil case isn’t any different. We’re sure you have a child in the family who goes gaga for Iron Man and they’ll be able to take him to school with them every day, plus there’s quite a bit of storage for the inevitable masses of coloured pencils the tots will insist on.

Okay, so they’re not quite brogues, but they’re about as close as we’ll let the littles to a pair until their feet stop growing. (Those things are shockingly expensive.) These adorable slip on versions are a great placeholder in the meantime: easy, black and sure to please any teacher doing a surprise uniform check. The detailing is what’s sold us though, subtle yet effortlessly cool.

Who said that kids couldn’t be stylish? If your tot’s school is one with a dress code, then these stylish black hi-tops are a great go-to. Lacoste’s shoes are both super comfortable and built to last, and they’ll easily see your kiddo from classroom to playground without any problems. You can opt for a velcro or lace option – super handy when little hands are trying to sort out their knots and bows!

Name Labels
Is there anything more annoying than the kids losing their kit on day 1? Make sure that their gear is labeled to the max and they’ll have no reason to let their stuff go walkabout ever again. Hear that kids? Never ever again.
For the coolest name labels around we love Stuck On You – their range is huge and there are adorable designs to choose from (monkeys, koalas, fire engines, dinosaurs – you name it, they got it) and loads of shapes to make things a little more interesting. If your kids prefer a slightly grown-up and sensible option then the classic name labels are just the thing.
There’s also Forget me not, a cute little online store does everything from stick-on to iron-on labels plus personalised shaped options that are durable, waterproof and ideal for identifying everything from lunch containers to sports equipment.
Lady Bug Labels is another mama fave for stylish name labels – they can be water resistant, microwave safe and can some can even survive the washing machine! Deck your child’s new pencil case out with goodies from British brand Paperchase and your kids may just end up the trendiest ones in class. This popular stationery shop stocks tons of colourful stuff like polka dot gel pens, funky highlighters (in all colors and shapes) and eye-catching notebooks, as well as folders, files and even backpacks!
Looking for reliable and practical stationery that’ll survive the classroom? With a wide variety of paper products as well as a covetable range of craft tools, WHSmith has your little lovelies covered for back-to-school writing supplies. And it doesn’t stop there either. You will find anything from notebooks to calculators, diaries, pencil cases and more!
If your kids tend to rock a “minimalist cool” style, then a set of lecture pads and some other bits and pieces from Muji should make them happy. With stores in Dubai Mall and Mirdif City Centre – Muji’s main draw card is the massive selection of pens available; from coloured gel pens to basic blue biros, you can easily stock up for the entire year in one go.
And our new favourite? Typo in Dubai’s very cool BOXPARK – a heaven for any stationery addicts out there – we could easily spend a few hours and a whole lot of dirhams in here!
Hair Cuts
The most important accessory for the first day of school? A good haircut (because how can they possibly see the blackboard through that crazy fringe?!)
