We Visit Some Of Dubai’s Cutest Baby Bedrooms
There is nothing cuter than a beautiful baby room with gorgeous little accessories and the kind of vibe that makes all those night-time wake ups more bearable! Super talented interior stylist Kath Hawkes (check out her stunning website House of Hawkes) worked together with Zahirah Marty (Nee Variawa), Managing Director of boutique PR and brand building agency Think Liquorice, blogger behind meetmrsmarty.com and curator of a seriously gorgeous Instagram feed (check out @mrszahmarty) on creating the perfect space for baby Noah Hamdan Marty who was born in July this year – and we got a little peek! From the most adorable library to seriously cool accessories (we’re loving the cowhide), read below for plenty of inspo.
How would you describe Noah’s nursery?
Zahirah: Just perfect! I left a lot of the details to Kath with only a little direction on what I wanted from the room in the end and she brought it to life just beautifully. It’s got elements that are so special to both Andrew and I, but also lends itself to being really practical and versatile should Baby no 2 come along and be a girl.
Kath: We called it a ‘Safari Circus’ nursery because that title seemed an excellent fit. We had some wild animal prints and a large elephant head as some of the key items in the room and they were extra playful as they’re all dressed in hats. Colour wise, it’s a very very calm and neutral space made up mostly of white & grey tones with touches of black and a minty greyish-green here and there.
Where did you get your inspiration from?
Zahirah: With my direction I have colors and elements in mind – grey, mints, white and animals as they represent Australia and South Africa. Like with most things creative – I was inspired by trolling many Pinterest boards.
Kath: I get almost all of my inspiration from Instagram & Pinterest these days.
Which part of the room do you love most?
Zahirah: The library – I think books are just not given the time they deserve these days and having a little library next to the rocking chair is really important to me. Even at this age, Noah gets so excited when we read books (I do role play rather than read to keep him entertained) but I am just a total lover of books and libraries. That, and the mini-wardrobe which I am just totally in love with!
Kath: My favourite side of the room is the wall that we covered with a LILIPINSO wallpaper because you see the cot, the pictures and the small wardrobe that we painted.
Where did you source the crib/accessories etc?
Zahirah: The crib, rocking chair and change table are all from Pottery Barn, and all the other beautiful accents and accessories were sourced by Kath. I love that she incorporated local designers as well as pieces from Australian and South African designers too. I bought a few of the smaller accessories in Australia just to throw in here and there like the mini suitcases, and clothes baskets.
Kath: There is a full sourcing post on the blog, linked here.
What are your favourite home stores in Dubai?
Zahirah:
Carpet Centre (Noah’s nursery hide is from there)
Kath: Well that really depends on what I am shopping for, but where possible, I love to support small businesses. Some favourites include:
For kids room: MarmarLand, Caramel & Sun, Tribe, White Moss, The Bowery Company, Joba Mums & Kids, H&M Home
For adult spaces: Tribe, White Moss, The Bowery Company, Urban Nest, Blanc D’Ivoire (recently rebranded to Home & Soul)
Any tips for picking up little gems and bargains?
Zahirah: There are great sales, so if you have time (as in the case of a nursery) wait it out – you’ll be surprised what you find during the sales.
Kath: Home Centre always has some hidden gems, as does Pan Emirates.
Whats the last thing you bought for your home?
Zahirah: Nursery accessories and linen – I love soft cotton sheets! We put this year aside for the nursery and Noah’s space, and had plans to look at a villa where I’d really like to spend more time decorating.
Kath: A gorgeous rug for my daughter’s room from Pan Emirates and some great bed linen from H&M Home.
