TravelPost Category - TravelTravel - Post Category - Long HaulLong Haul

We are dreaming of a white Christmas! So, where to go for snow, mama?

When it’s hot and humid all year round, escaping to some wintry cold snowy destination for Christmas sounds like just the ticket. From the Rocky Mountains to Japan, travel experts Mr & Mrs Smith have chosen some tip-top family-friendly ski getaways combining the best of luxury and adventure. Fingers crossed for lots of snow!

Zaborin, Niseko, Japan
After hitting the slopes of Niseko – Japan’s most prized piste – you and your family will be able to get warm and cosy in your secluded villa, complete with both indoor and outdoor spring-water onsen baths. Traditional kita kaiseki meals will be served nightly, made using ingredients picked and caught by the on-site chef in the nearby lake and forest, following which you can retire to the candlelit lounge for tea or sake. Cots are provided for children under two, and futons for those up to 12 years old. Zaborin offers the best of both worlds – cosy privacy amidst the meadows, with some of Asia’s best ski slopes a short drive away.
Smith Extra: A bottle of local sake from Niseko brewery

Azur Lodge, Queenstown, New Zealand
Complete with a spa bath designed to give the illusion of outdoor bathing, the nine private, stone and silver beechwood villas that make up Azur Lodge embrace their unrivalled destination. Uninterrupted views of Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables range, and Cecil and Walter Peaks will provide the backdrop to your family trip. There’s hiking, skiing and skydiving on hand plus Queenstown has plenty of activities for younger children, including several tailor-made natural excursions. If you’re bringing the little ones along, the hotel will have your villa primed with child-friendly options, including extra beds and patio safety features, as required. Babysitting services are available, and a kids’ menu is on offer in the hotel restaurant.
Smith Extra: Arcadia sparkling wine on ice and handmade chocolates in your villa upon arrival

The Sebastian – Vail, Colorado Rocky Mountains
It’s the details that make returning home to The Sebastian – Vail after a day on the slopes so relaxing; from snacks, fresh fruit, and bottled water in the rooms, to hearty, locally sourced dishes and a heated swimming pool, this mountain-side hotel has every base covered to ensure a relaxing stay. The hotel offers guests a slope-side ‘adventure concierge,’ as well as a valet service to help tow heavy ski equipment. A children’s entertainment room and daily activity schedule are amongst the offerings, and families can book Residential Suites with up to four bedrooms. If they aren’t too exhausted after a day on the slopes, The Battle Mountain Kids Camp will keep your little ones entertained, in addition to s’more kits and snowman-making sets.
Smith Extra: One-day bike rentals for two with summer stays, or a one-day ski rental package for one with winter stays

The Cambrian, Adelboden, Switzerland
Set in a picture-perfect location amidst the snowy Swiss Alps, The Cambrian offers a relaxing cocoon at the end of an adventure-filled day. Ski and snowboarding schools are ready to teach you and your family new tricks, or you could borrow sledges and Nordic walking canes from the hotel if you fancy a snowy jaunt. A 24-hour playroom and the provision of babysitters will enable you to enjoy a spa experience with all-natural Alpienne products, or relax in the icy blue hue of Scott’s Bar, where Swiss beer is on tap.
Smith Extra: A bottle of wine in your room

Dunton Hot Springs, San Juan Mountains, United States
A boutique cabin hotel in rural Colorado, Dunton Hot Springs, is characterised by unique offerings, including the old village Dance Hall, Bath House and Saloon. Local nannies are on hand to help take care of the smaller Smith travellers, enabling the grown-ups to relax in indoor and outdoor natural hot springs. Outside the oasis of the hotel, guests can try their hand at fly-fishing, horse riding, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, mountaineering, rafting, heli-skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snow-shoeing, ice-climbing, ice-skating…safe to say, there’s something for everyone!
Smith Extra: An in-cabin dinner for two and a bottle of wine from the hotel’s Sutcliffe Vineywards

With Mr & Mrs Smith you’ll enjoy best-price guarantee, as well as a little something extra on arrival at every hotel.
