Sri Lanka For Curious Little Minds

Sri Lanka has long been a favourite family holiday destination from Dubai – with just over 4 hours flight time and absolutely heaps to do, this lovely little island is right up there on our wanderlust list, mamas. But if, like us, you want a holiday with a difference, something more meaningful, a throwback to those carefree childless days when adventure and authenticity rather than kids clubs and closed off resorts were on the agenda then we have just the thing to make you want to pack those bags and get going pronto!

Ayu In The Wild is a family owned company which provides a bespoke experience to create really unique and tailor made itineraries to suit all family requirements – where key cultural highlights at awe inspiring UNESCO World Heritage Sites are mixed with life lessons and genuine interactions with local people. The focus of these tours is to keep the kiddos engaged and happy through immersive travel experiences – these guys believe that it IS possible to travel authentically with children and we couldn’t agree more. And they believe in ‘off the beaten track’ so that you can go where most tourists don’t but in a safe and controlled way so as to enjoy the most beautiful and remote corners of Sri Lanka, mixed with luxury and that extra special personal touch.

And the bit we love most? Ayu in the Wild is 100% locally owned so all income is kept in Sri Lanka. Because sustainable travel is definitely the way forward, mamas.

From hands on cooking experiences to spending time with rural primary school kids, learning the traditional art of drumming and dance to wilderness treks with local naturalists (with experienced guides giving insights into animal behaviour, to make these safaris more about learning about life in the wild, rather than merely spotting animals). Plus the chance to meet jungle farmers, local artisans and explore family owned tea plantations up in the beautiful misty hills plus loads more – there is no education better than this.

Accommodation is in a mix of boutique villas, quirky adventurous tree huts, small luxury hotels and tented camps all carefully chosen for their special qualities and great rates for families. All tours are hassle free – from pick up to drop off and include luxury vehicles (vans, suvs, car, coaches) driven by English speaking chauffeurs who meet and greet you at the airport. Perfect.
