It’s staycation-season time (yeah!!) and the weather has finally cooled down – Hello Dubai Winter (finally)! You’ve booked the staycation, you’ve packed for the kids AND for your husband and you now have to pack for yourself, but where to start and what to bring as you want to look your stylish best on the weekend away? Is it even a holiday or staycation these days without a slogan beach hat? Are you even there unless your hat displays a statement such as “Wanderlust”, “Bubbles Please”, “Vacay Vibes”, “Hello Sunshine”, “Do Not Disturb”, “Out of Office” – to name but a few. Slogan hats are the way to go right now and Dubai based accessory brand Twenty5Zero5 are KILLING it with their amazing array and choice of both wide brimmed beach hats and Panama hats. They also specialise in matching hats for your little mini-me’s (see below) and can customise to your hearts galore!

I’m an accessories girl….hence why I’ve put accessories first but a bag is one of those items that’s a practical necessity and something you’ll get so much use out of so it’s worth investing in. A stylish and large beach bag which you can use for traveling can also ‘multi-task’ and be used on the beach and around the pool on your staycation. Straw and raffia type beach bags are quite on trend now with some details like ‘pom-poms’ and ‘tassels’ thrown in as well as customisation and monogramming (as you all know I’m a big fan of!).
Dubai based boutique Bobot has THE cutest handmade beach bags and pouches as well as ‘matching-with-your-mini-me’ bags which again can all be customised and personalised to your requirements.

You can’t go wrong with a pair of denim shorts. In fact, I would go far as saying they should be a staple item in your wardrobe especially living in the Gulf and the UAE. Versatile enough to be worn on the school run and play dates as well as a perfect item teamed with an off-the-shoulder-top, vest-top or t-shirt whilst traveling or on your staycation.

In terms of swimwear and how comfortable you are with your body (especially after having kids) I’m gonna hold my hand up and say I prefer a swimsuit over a bikini. Personally I feel a bit more comfortable and not worried about flabby tummy bits hanging out etc. Plus a nice swimsuit can double up as a ‘body-suit’ to be worn with your denim shorts going for lunch around the pool.

Kimono’s are becoming almost essential wardrobe and all-year-round items now. Wear this over your denim shorts and a white vest top or t-shirt or around the pool as a cover-up over your swimsuit or bikini. Alternatively as this is a wrap-around style – you can team this with a pair of wedges or sandals for an elegant evening look.

Fashion has dictated that it is now perfectly acceptable to wear ‘slipper-esque’ shoes as outdoor wear so I’m taking it and running with it (literally!). Not only is this style so on-trend right now, the comfort factor is massive so this one is a no-brainer.

I’m a big fan of midi-dresses…in fact I would pick these any day over a maxi-dress in terms of comfort, the fact that they are flatteringly demure and I don’t trip over myself when I walk.

Hope this has given you some ‘staycation packing’ inspiration…I promise with those few key items, your style dilemmas are one less thing to worry about. Of course two of the most important items for a staycation/holiday or everyday use are a good pair of sunglasses with proper UVA and UVB protection as well as a high-factor suncream – make sure they’re the first items you pack!
