Checking Out The New Menu at Wild & The Moon

Sadly I don’t live up to that ‘ladies who lunch’ cliche as my midday meal usually involves grabbing something off a shelf or inhaling the leftover contents of my fridge in between work and school pick-up. But any excuse to make lunch an occasion and catch up with girlfriends (i.e after school activities means a later school run – yippeee!) and I’m there! With the excesses of summer definitely showing around my middle and thighs (sob), it’s all (or nearly all…) about healthy eating for me this month, so the opportunity to meet up with a friend over a few healthy bites at super cool cafe Wild & The Moon was just the thing.

Wild & The Moon is based on the simple belief that food should be good for you, good for the planet and above all delicious. Tick and tick and tick! Their food and juices are 100% organic, cold-pressed, plant-based, gluten-free and unpasteurized. These guys bring a little bit of nature to our busy city lives.

There are plenty of things to love about this little green eatery, not least the gorgeous interiors and super cool location (at Al Serkal Avenue, one of my absolute favourites). Packed with greenery and combining natural materials with an urban vibe this is just the kind of place that you could easily while a way a few hours (if only!). We sat on the mezzanine level which is bright and airy and has a lovely view of the downstairs (great for people watching) – if you need to get a little work done then this area is perfect.

Now because the menu is mega good for you, I have a tendency to over order here but actually the portions are really decent in size so go steady! We opted for the salad of the month, a ‘Rawliflower Bowl’ which combines wild tabouleh with raw cauliflower, cucumber, mint, chickpea and pomegranate with oriental spices and is apparently choc full of antioxidants and a great way to boost vitality which is obviously perfect for any busy mama! Totally delicious and very filling – but that didn’t stop us from digging into the ‘Guac & Crackers’ – because anything featuring avocado is always a good idea, especially when it comes topped with nutritious and scrummy seaweed and also a super bowl of ‘Nori Quinoa’ Quinoa packed full with kale, cucumber, avocado, nori seaweed, ginger and cashew nuts dressed with rosemary, lemon juice, tamari and sesame oil. YUM!

And to drink? The ‘Skin Blossom’ nutmylk for perking up tired skin and a ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ juice for plenty of vitamin C because everyone in the family seems to have come down with some kind of lurgy since school started. No refined sugar, no additives or chemicals, no gmos, no soy, no dairy, no gluten. Nothing added. Just lots of healthy, tasty ingredients and a good hour of chatting – perfect! Wild & The Moon is the perfect place for a light lunch, for a coffee (sans dairy of course), for a quick pick-me-up juice and for escaping a hectic schedule for an hour or two.

psst…they also do really scrummy treats with zero guilt factor. Raw Tatin, anyone? I’ll definitely be back for more.
