Dubai’s First Water Birthing Facilities at Al Zahra Hospital

Calling all mamas-to-be! We are super excited to have the scoop on the very first water birth facility at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai – a brand new and wonderfully watery way of bringing your beautiful babes into the world. Part of a recently opened suite that provides a calming environment for hypnobirthing and active birth complete with mood lighting, birthing balls, stools and ropes, mamas in the making have the choice to labour in water in all 4 rooms. Water births are a common holistic delivery alternative around the world that have, until now, been unavailable in Dubai – woohoo!

Let’s be honest, labour can be a terrifying prospect but, despite what you see at the movies, not all births involve a mama lying on her back, feet in the air! Alternative positions and the freedom to move about are a natural way for women to get as comfortable and relaxed as possible – and this is what the Al Zahra active birthing suite and birth pool is all about.

You may not know but labouring and giving birth in water has oodles of benefits including less painful contractions (um, surely this is reason enough to dive in?!) and therefore less need for pain relief, shorter labour, more comfort and mobility (the pool supports 75% of a labouring woman’s weight) and generally a calmer and gentler birth. The hospital creates a magical environment for each birth, complete with warm water, soothing lighting and even a constellation of stars to watch over you. Frankly we’re tempted to add to our brood just to give it a go mamas!

Led by British midwife Sally Hunter-Madubuko, the fab team at Al Zahra are super savvy and mega qualified in making the birth experience as cosy, comfy and stress free as possible. Sally and her crew are passionate about active birth, empowering women to make informed choices and working to increase the normal birth rate plus providing all the support you need to achieve successful breastfeeding.

Water births are suitable for any normal, full-term pregnancy (where there are no complications), the perfect way for your baby to come into the world and for mama to have as natural and relaxed labour experience as possible.
