Dinner & Drinks For AED 200? Yes It’s Possible (& Great Too) At Mr Miyagis
Sometimes (many times), I have zero inclination to cook dinner. And while I’m very lucky to have a husband who’s a bit nifty in the kitchen, there’s nothing like foregoing the dirty dishes and heading out for a bite. The problem? A quick meal out can get SOOO expensive even when you don’t mean it to be, particularly when you fancy a little drink or two (we all know what a busy day with the kids can do to you). Well, mamas, the hubby and I checked out one of Dubai’s newest restaurants, Mr. Miyagis – where the ‘Lady’s Boy Night’ (every Wednesday and Saturday from 5pm) allows for lots of food and drinks for only AED 99 per person (yay!).
If you’re looking for a fine dining experience then this place isn’t for you – but if it’s a casual night out where you’re guaranteed some really yummy Asian street food in a fun setting then this is it!
Located at the 9th floor of the Media One Hotel in Dubai Media City, Mr Miyagis captures the fun energy of Asia. The separate bar area, Cobra Kai, looked fab – but with 3 kids guaranteed to wake us all night before an early start for school runs the next day, we gave it a miss (will return when and if a little lie-in is on the cards!). The ‘Lady’s Boy Night’ is this: AED 99 for unlimited drinks and a choice of 3 items from a set menu for the gals, and AED 99 for a spirit mixer and a choice of 3 items from the same menu for the boys (with the option of buying extra drinks of course, if that’s a priority for your dinner date).
I opted for Edamame with garlic and chilli oil (so simple, so completely scrummy), california rolls and a vegetable pad thai while hubby chose prawn crackers with simanak vinegar, vegetable dim sum and kung pao chicken with egg fried rice. Each course arrived separately, giving us time to sit and chat and sip – and each was a really decent size and very tasty so my fears that we wouldn’t have enough to eat were completely unfounded. My meal was complimented by frozen margaritas (one of two cocktails that come as part of the package) and my husbands with a house spirit with mixer – although he quickly moved onto tiger beers (for that extra authentic feel). Our waiter was super smiley, super helpful, super busy because the place was totally buzzing (seriously, you need to book mamas!).
Just over an hour later we were fed, we were watered and we were happy to return home where there were no dishes to wash or mess to deal with. Perfect. In a city that’s full of fabulous places to eat, Mr. Miyagis was just the thing for a casual night out and has definitely been added to my list of places to head when cooking or getting jazzed up in fancy clothes just aren’t an option.
