A Fun, Cheap & Delicious Family-Friendly Brekkie at Raju Omlet

Weekend mornings for us usually mean attempted lie-ins (by the grown ups, sadly never achieved due to 5am kiddie wake-up-call) and a pancake making session that leaves the kitchen looking like it’s been turned upside down. So occasionally we decide to take the easy option and head out for brekkie and let someone else take care of the clearing up! There are oodles of places to grab the usual breakfast fare around town so when I discovered Raju Omlet (and no, I’m not misspelling it – that’s how the name’s written), a quirky little Indian restaurant in Al Quoz that serves nothing but eggs, I was intrigued. One breakfast later, this lovely spot has been added to my list of faves in Dubai – and here’s why.

Quirky family friendly dining in Dubai

The Vibe

Eclectic, bright and colourful – walking into Raju instantly transports you from Dubai to tasting street food in India. There’s graffiti on the walls and egg related puns/artwork dotted about plus mismatched furniture, bright colours and plants. A team of staff in smart whites and diner style hats bustle about with trays of chai and freshly squeezed juice -and occasionally an old fashioned car horn goes ‘poop poop’ as the waiters ring in another order (the kids got to have a go too!).

What’s on the menu?

As the name suggests, Raju Omlet is all about eggs! From omelettes to scrambled to sprinkled with masala, ginger or chilli – or lightly spiced and half-fried, rolled in bread or served up in a curry – these guys know their eggs! And for the kids? We asked for simple boiled, fried and scrambled – no spice – which went down a treat. Side dishes include plain rice or paratha bread to mop up all the flavours with.

Relaxed and fun at Raju Omlet

Thumbs up

It’s so refreshing to find somewhere as down to earth, relaxed and cool-without-trying-to-be as Raju Omlet. This is the much needed antidote to the glamour and glitz of Dubai – as lovely as that can be. The waitstaff couldn’t have been more caring and friendly (especially when 2 of the 3 kids spilled their OJ all over the table and another sat half undressed under it), the food was delicious and the price absolutely amazing (5 meals for just over AED 100 – I kid you not!).

Thumbs down

Really can’t think of anything – I guess if you’re not an egg fan then this place isn’t for you?!

Stroller access

Yes, you can wheel right on in if need be.

High chairs

I have to admit I didn’t notice high chairs but I’m sure they’d have them – the team here have thought of everything to make your experience fun and comfortable – and if they don’t? Raju Omlet is the kind of place where they’ll figure out a solution!

Pricing

CHEAP! And I mean seriously cheap, mamas! AED 18 for a breakfast dish and another AED 4 for a cup of roadside Mumbai Chai!

Opening times

8am – 11pm daily (that’s a whole lot of hours to be filling up on yummy eggs, Indian style!).
