A mini guide to what’s hot and what’s new in Dubai this month

Where has January gone!? Seems like only yesterday that we were toasting the New Year and now Valentines Day is right on our doorstep. This month is all about LOVE – and I don’t just mean date nights and fresh flowers (although I won’t say no to either) but also falling back in love with our gorgeous city and all the cool new stuff it has to offer. It’s also about making plans for Half Term and Spring Break, getting outdoors in this gorgeous weather and carrying on with all the healthy intentions for the year (ok, with the occasional treat too…). From fabulous family friendly outings to cool new dining spots and loads more – this is what I’m loving and doing in Dubai in February.

Playing at…

Rise at Dubai Creek Harbour

Rise, Dubai Creek Harbour. If you need some family fun at the weekends then look no further than Dubai Creek Harbour where – for the next 3 months, every Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 2pm and midnight – you can eat, be entertained, play and chill outdoors while soaking up the most insane view of the Dubai skyline. Dubai Creek Harbour is set to be one of the city’s coolest residential areas and Rise is a lifestyle experience that gives us a glimpse into what to expect. With a kids playground that includes huge climb-on wooden whales and loads of other fun stuff (lots of it in the shade =brilliant) plus a pirate ship, food trucks that include the sensational SALT and ‘The Inventing Room’ (where food and science meets – the kids loved it), DJ’s and outdoor cinema all with a sensational view, you’ll be hard pushed to find a better place to hang out.

Pretending To Be Cool At…

Nikki Beach

Nikki Beach. Fancy a dose of Miami cool right here in Dubers? Course you do, mamas! And Nikki Beach Resort & Spa is the place to get it. Whether you’re after a day at the pool or a mini staycay then book it here and escape the hustle and bustle of the city without ever leaving. Bright whites, pale blues and natural wood – it’s fresh, light and completely instagrammable (if that’s your thing). Oh and the pool…..simply heavenly.

Getting cultural at…

Etihad Museum

The Etihad Museum. It’s absolutely amazing to think that the UAE was only established just over 40 years ago and also that most of us don’t really know that much about its history. Well that can all change with a visit to the new 2.5 hectare Etihad Museum which tells the whole story of how the UAE was founded and brings the nation’s past to life. From fascinating facts to cool artefacts (the sunglasses of the late Sheikh Rashid – retro amazing!). It’s not necessarily geared at kids but the older ones will enjoy it (there’s a documentary film to watch) and the littles have lots of space to roam about in.

Dining at…

Dinner In The Sky Dubai

Dinner in the sky – the absolutely incredible new experience at the Dubai International Marine Club (in Dubai Marina) – which involves being strapped to a jump-seat style chair around a table on a platform which is then hoisted 50 meters above the ground. This is one of those experiences to tick off your Dubai bucket list – go for brekkie, brunch, lunch or dinner (each session lasts 90 mins) and prepare for some gorgeous views and some even more gorgeous photos. If you’re scared of heights? Don’t look down!

Kitting Out The Kids In…

Sunuva kids

Pineapples, pompoms and pinstripes courtesy of SUNUVA’s gorgeous Spring/Summer 2017 collection. I’m talking rash vests, swimmers and beach accessories all with SPF protection and the cutest designs – it might be winter here but the sun’s still shining so beachwear is ALWAYS in season! This fabulous brand has also started doing pyjamas and a few mama items too – I love.

Going gaga for…

Gardner and the gang

Gardner & The Gang. This kids clothing line by Swedish mama Kristin Nystrom is taking Dubai by storm because it’s AWESOME! Comfy, soft, colourful, fun and oh-so cool (but in a friendly way) plus not break-the-bank expensive, this is exactly what children’s clothes should be all about. The ‘Pete The Pony’ Tank Top has been earmarked for my daughter and the ‘Wayne Mint’ Shark Sweater for my boys – and as for the ‘Pop’ tee? I might try to squeeze into that myself. Available online or Brighteyez and Noahsgarden.

Lunching at…

lighthouse restaurant d3 Dubai Design District

The Lighthouse, d3 (Dubai Design District), a recently opened concept store that also serves up some very delicious food (Chef Izu is ex La Serre and La Petite Maison…). There are home baked pastries in the morning and scrummy Mediterranean fare for lunch and dinner plus a selection of reds and whites, craft brews and ciders all exclusive to The Lighthouse. Sit on the sunny terrace or soak up the vibes indoors – either way you’ll love it.

Buying for babies via…

Babyshop app online shopping

The new Babyshop app where everything from clothes to feeding essentials, toys to carseats, bathtime products to travel must haves are available at the touch of your phone. The perfect way to buy any last minute items (am I the only person who leaves buying party gifts to the day before!?) – everything can be delivered the next day – too easy!
