Our Fashion Mama’s Top Picks for Spring/Summer Trends 2018
Are we all done with the sales yet? I don’t know about you guys, but I for one am sick of looking (and tripping) at sale upon sale racks currently displayed in every retailer right now. Anybody that knows me and follows my blog and Instagram etc knows that I’m a MASSIVE Autumn/Winter fashion kinda gal. I love layers, cosy knits, boots, coats – anything that resembles cool snuggly clothes BUT I am looking forward to some fresh new Spring and Summer stock coming into the stores and online and saying goodbye to the Autumn/Winter collections.
So without further ado, lets take a little look at the top Spring/Summer trends we will all be buying and wearing for 2018. Take note…and happy shopping!

I’m not gonna lie…..I for one am extremely pleased about this one. Not admitting to my age….but….I am a child of the 80’s and I basically feel ‘at-one’ with the decade. Plus I’ve become even more obsessed with it after finishing both Series 1 and 2 of Stranger Things – so yes Netflix has a lot to do with this if you ask me. Think nipped-in waists, strong shoulders and mom jeans with white ankle boots and you’re good to go!

Not blowing my own trumpet or anything (ok….I slightly am!) but I ‘called this’ last year – see here – to the extent that I have been going around wearing my erm ‘fanny pack’ eschewing its ‘coolness’ and longing for everyone to catch onto this fabulous trend. I think Gucci this time around have placed it up there as a definite 2018 trend with the penchant for its fab (I really want one!!) Marmont leather belt bag.

I’m a big fan of polka dots and so happy that this is set to become a trend for the upcoming seasons as I always feel it’s one of those designs/styles that is a perfect transitional pattern between Summer and Autumn and Winter and Spring (right now). Top tip, in order to avoid looking like a 1950’s housewife, keep it monochrome and keep it cool in modern silhouettes and shapes.

Yes you guessed it, if it’s pastel, fresh with gelato hues – it’s big news for SS18. From lilac/lavendar (which is probably gonna be the most popular shade this season – if you see this pastel colour – trust me – it WILL be big!) and duck egg blue to lemon sorbet and pistachio – think pretty clothes but with a powerful style for this trend to really take centre stage.

Just when we thought that whole ‘vinyl’ look was just for AW17, its back or should I say…..it’s still here. So that’s good news for those of you who invested in a bit of ‘plastic’ late last year as you will basically be shopping your wardrobe which is always a good thing. You’ll never look at your dishwashing gloves in the same light again.

Who said Heritage checks was just for Autumn/Winter? Nope…..they are still here and still big news. Plus very good news for those of us who invested in a fab Prince of Wales check blazer – again back to our own wardrobes we go! Think of the money we will save next season!!

Fringing is one of those trends that always makes an appearance every Spring or Summer….just in time for Coachella and various other music festivals. So again….something we may all perhaps have in our wardrobes. If it ‘swishes’……it’s on-trend.

On a complete contrast from those soft pastel hues…….designers also ushered models down the runway in bright rainbow statement colours during SS18 Fashion week. The secret to wearing this trend – the more the better – just clump all those colours together – this is a loud trend and not for the faint hearted. Go hard or go home!
So there you have it – of course there are a lot more trends coming through but expect to see most of these in the stores and online going forward.
