Mamas, you know what they say “A minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips”but who cares when you’ve just opened the door to Dubai’s latest and most delicious feast of cakes, pastries & cronuts! Driving past Home Bakery every morning (on the Al Wasl Road at The Galeria, near Life Pharmacy), curiosity got the better of me (as did the idea of tucking into a sweet treat) so I popped in to do a little ‘research’ and see what all the hype is about. Home baked cakes and bread just down the road from my own home, how can one resist? And let me tell you, my mouth was watering so much at the beautiful display of cakes on offer that I was worried I’d dribble if I opened it to order!

21The café was full and buzzing with people either sitting down or in a large queue ordering take-away. However, there was one little table in the corner with two seats which was just perfect for me and my 2 year old daughter who had been waiting for cake since I promised her at 8am that morning that she and mummy were going on a “Cake Date”. We sat down and she had her fork in hand – ready to get stuck in! The menu  was on the table but my eyes were firmly fixated on the cake counter – decisions decisions! So I boldly asked our waitress what their absolute best selling cake is – adding that it MUST big enough to share (I say go big or go home!)

The devil on my shoulder was telling me to order the large chocolate chip cookie cake or the caramel pecan cheesecake while the angel urged me to resist and go for a coffee and little biscuit on the side! Needless to say the devil won and the chocolate chip cookie cake was soon heading our way.

12Home Bakery is such a quaint little bakery with rustic yet chic decor and cute accessories such as partridge trees at the entrance in hessian bags. Gone are the times when baking was considered uncool – nowadays, little cake shops are opening all over Dubai and creative types are selling their homemade cakes, cupcakes  and brownies for us all to enjoy. These outlets focus on the charm of the homemade produce in elegant, home from home, surroundings. Home Bakery is my little piece of homemade heaven. The ambience is comfortable and all the sweet stuff is simply divine.

15My daughter and I devoured the cake in world record time and then both skipped out on a little sugar high, knowing full well we were coming back for more; maybe next time we’ll go easy on the chocolate cake and sample the other delicious baked goods…or maybe not!

I wouldn’t say Home Bakery is super child friendly (although anywhere with sweet treats is a kid heaven right?!) – I didn’t see any high chairs but I did notice a play area soon to open inside the mall where the cafe is located. This is my idea of Kid Friendly – they play  while I sip on coffee and nibble on cake – perfect!
