We Visit Some Of Dubai’s Cutest Baby Bedrooms
Jess Roberts is founder of Lace in the Desert (a fabulous service which offers styling and a refined collection of tabletop rentals for the most stylish events and photoshoots). A new mama to Albert who is now 4 months old, Jess has created a beautiful nursery space combining bargain pieces with one-off finds into an uber cute, calm room for her little boy. And here are some of her tips and tricks!
How would you describe your little boy’s nursery?
Creating this space was such a labour of love. I wanted to keep the space as neutral as possible since we didn’t know the sex of the baby so I decided on greys, whites and a hint of sage green for the colours. It was such a slow and continual project whilst I was pregnant and I spent so much time sorting and decorating in there that I still feel that sense of excited anticipation when I step into it sometimes now. I love it as a space and I cannot wait to watch Albert grow into it.
Where did you get your inspiration from?
Pinterest and instagram are both huge sources of inspiration however the room came together quite slowly as I wanted to invest in pieces that I loved. It all came together bit by bit and there are little personal touches of home as my mum knitted the bunting above his crib and my mother in law knitted a cashmere blanket.
Which part of the room are you most proud of?
My bargain house boxes – they were in hideous colours when I bought them but they are a real focal point now and I love them.
Can you tell us where you shopped for your crib and accessories?
Crib from IKEA, Rug from The Bowery Company, Chair and Beaded light from Tribe, Elephant Head by Fiona Walker, Palm Stool at ACE Elephant storage boxes from Pottery Barn, Wooden Stacking Toy from Malaco.

You mentioned that you’d cleverly ‘hacked’ some of the furniture – can you tell us what/how?
The house boxes I picked up in Pan Emirates and painted them, the ‘gym’ was from IKEA which I painted and changed the wooden hangings for ones I found on Amazon.
What are your favourite home stores in Dubai?
Home centre and Pan Emirates for a bargain, Lucky’s in Sharjah for statement pieces and Zara Home, Marina Home, IKEA for all round items.

Any tips for saving money on decorating?
The January sales are a great place to source big items for a fraction of their usual cost. I keep a keen eye on Dubizzle, its such a great source for pieces
Finally, what’s the last thing you bought for your home?
I always pick up something when I travel so some beautiful decor bits from chatuchak market in Bangkok – we were there as part of our babymoon.
