A tidy bedroom? With kids around? What does that even look like?! With everything from attending to a crying baby to feeding a fussy eater, managing school runs, maintaining a work life balance, staying physically active and being well-rested… keeping the home organised and decluttered is often at the bottom of the pile of things to do. We hear you, mamas. BUT your day begins and ends in the bedroom, so keeping it organized will also keep you sane, and these simple organisational hacks with a little bit of common sense and some clever storage tricks (without breaking the bank) will have you retiring to a calm & tranquil bedroom – EVERYDAY (night).

One of the reasons we feel our bedrooms are so messy is because we love to simply dump stuff – using every square inch of space thats available (often the easiest way when we’re crawling into bed at the end of another crazy day). The good news is this can be easily corrected by following this simple step towards becoming more organized. DEDICATED PLACE HOLDERS – if items have a dedicated place, you’re more likely to put them back there (and it will just take you minutes, if not seconds). If you simply put things on dresser tops or spare drawers, everything gets messy and the overwhelm kicks in. Instead, use bins, jars, drawers, shelves and place holders to bring some method to the madness.

This simple trick is our favourite. In a perfect world (one where our kids are well behaved and the husband does breakfast every morning), we would all have time to make our beds in the morning. Well, we all know what real world looks like so, just trick yourself and others by simply pulling your comforter up under your pillows. This makes your bed look neat and everything is back to being perfect in the world.

A chic minimalist bedside table may look really nice, but it’s not sensible furniture when space is limited! Shop for a bedside table with multiple drawers or shelves to get good use out of that table. Extra drawer and surface space will help de-clutter your room, and you’ll have everything you need within reach!

The space under the bed is an ideal storage area and a great way to save room (and hide unwanted clutter). Whether its pajamas, blankets, or off-season clothes, these drawers will come in handy. You could use cubbies, baskets, make shift drawers and can be easily found at Ikea. Also, keeping the shoes outside of the bedroom (even in the laundry room) can be quick and easiest way to save space. If this isn’t an option use a shoe hanger to stack them neatly. You’re on your way to an organised bedroom already, mama!

Fold everything in your clothing drawers neatly. Use ALL available space, and organise your clothes horizontally instead of vertical. Keep out-of-season (winter/summer) clothes out of the way (check out our TIPS On How to DE-CLUTTER Your Wardrobe here). Take advantage of your new drawers under the bed and on the bedside table! Install drawer dividers to help keep your things organised. This is great for dividing socks from undergarments or your electronics from your magazines.

If your bedroom is lacking surface space these are beautiful and practical – a great way to stash those bedroom extras. You can use hooks for everything from hats to scarves to jewellery to jackets to bags, and everything in between. We love!

Finally, treat yourself to a bouquet of flowers and invest in some good scented candles to put on the bedside table or the window sill! It’s no secret mama, not only bedroom is the place you relax after a long long day, but a cozy and neat bedroom can ultimately lead to a better night’s sleep. Adding a few flowers and candles helps you wake up refreshed, allows you to be more productive throughout the day, and brightens up your room… and your mood, mama!
