A Mini Guide To What To Do In Dubai This January
Happy New Year, mamas! I hope you all had the most wonderful break with your family and are having a good start to 2018. I always feel a little blue after the Christmas decs come down and the routine gets going again (ugh those early starts are an absolute killer after 3 weeks of very lazy mornings) – so there’s nothing better than filling the diary with fun and having plenty to distract you from, what is apparently, the most depressing month of the year! And there’s loads going on in Dubai this month – from fun outdoor events to shopping deals and more. January, we’re coming for you!
Here’s a little of what I’m loving and doing in Dubai this month…

Dubai Frame which opened to the public on the 1st of this month and which promised to be one of THE must-do’s for anyone living/visiting Dubai. This dazzling golden structure in Zabeel Park will take you on a journey through time – exploring old Dubai, present Dubai and future Dubai complete with projections, special effects, a 360 degree view of the city from a sky deck and much more. And it’s not astronomically expensive to visit – just AED 50 for adults and AED 20 for children between 3-12 years old.
Visit www.thedubaiframe.com Pick up tickets from Zabeel Park Gate 4.

At Deira’s Waterfront Market at which you’ll find fresh fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, dry goods and more all under one roof and all at a fraction of supermarket prices (every little dirham helps!). Located on the site of the old Deira fish market, this upgraded version has been open since last summer but is constantly evolving – and with a hypermarket onsite plus restaurants and more, there’s plenty to see and do. Take the kids and buy up fish and veggies to cook up together!

The old, unworn, ‘one day I’ll fit into them again’ pieces from my wardrobe and treating myself to a few new staples during Dubai Shopping Festival – a whole month of deals and discounts in stores and malls across the city (if you’re very organised you can get this year’s Christmas shopping started!). The festival also offers heaps of entertainment – we went along to Mercato Mall and watched the most incredible magic/juggling act which made the whole experience of shopping with kids that much more bearable! On until 27th January.

A movie under the stars for a date night with a difference (and one that isn’t going to break the bank this month too). The Steinberger Hotel in Business Bay has kicked off its Tuesday movie nights at ‘The Backyard’, complete with food truck, a la carte meal options and some really cheesy classics including Pretty Woman and Grease.
Tuesdays at 19.30pm. Buy tickets here.

Market OTB, a gorgeous outdoor event from 11 – 20, January that combines shopping, food, music and more in a beautiful setting under the Burj Khalifa (in Burj Park – if you haven’t been this lovely green space has the BEST views and location in downtown Dubai). With cute little stalls selling products by local and international brands, food trucks, kids activities including bedtime stories (so cute!), live music and masses of space for running around, you’ll love it, mamas!

Arty & cultural at Quoz Arts Fest, a free 2 day event on 26 and 27, October which celebrates arts and culture while focusing on participation and community interaction. Held at Al Serkal, the event is open to the whole family – including pets (yay!) and there’ll be loads of kid-friendly activities including performances, workshops, tours, film screenings, delicious food, live music and a market too. Can’t wait!
