Maya Villa, Sri Lanka

TravelPost Category - TravelTravel

Maya (which is Sanskrit for Illusion or Dream) is a restored 19th Century Sri Lankan Manor House converted into five luxury villa suites. Situated in a rural village in the island’s lush southern interior, Maya is set in a rich landscape of tropical gardens and coconut trees abundant with local birds and surrounded by rice paddies.

Maya’s five suites (some of which have four poster beds and private courtyards) are all individually named after trees in the grounds. The bathrooms have rain showers and toiletries containing organic and tropical herbs and spices. You’ll be looked after by Maya’s five person staff of management and housekeepers, and Maya’s private chef, Darasana has a great reputation for his fusion of Sri Lankan and international favourites. You can discuss menus with him in advance and then dine either in The Old House of outside in the garden pavilion. If you’re coming with a large group of several families you could even have the option to take over the whole villa.

The 20 meter swimming pool set in the open courtyard is great for the little ones to splash around in and the gardens are perfect for exploring. There are a wide range of activities available, from badminton, croquet, volleyball and cricket, to board games, books and a DVD library. You can also use Maya’s bicycles to explore the home village of Aranwella with the family. UdaWalawe elephant park is close by and the Kalametiya bird sanctuary which are wonderful educational experiences which will have a lasting impression. The beaches of the south coast of Sri Lanka (and the possibility to spot whales and dolphins!) make Maya a perfect base for exploring.

Travel cot, highchair and babysitting services available on request. Additional single beds are offered free for children up to the age of 12 years.

Rates at Maya start at US170 for a double room or US750 per night for exclusive use during Low Season (May, June, September, October). In high season (March, April, July, August, November) double rooms are US255 or US900 per night for the whole villa. All rates include breakfast.
