After 3 weeks of planning my now 3 year olds Princess Party, from the invite to the decorations, food to the party bags, I decided that post event I definitely needed a bit of TLC. So I booked a treatment at Lime Spa for some well deserved pampering.
Lime Spa is located in the 5 star luxury retreat, Desert Palm, on Al Awir Road, and offers an exclusive and calming experience in the tranquil oasis of the resort. The spa presents only 6 treatment suites, with 6 professional therapists at your service, which is why when you enter the underground sensual space, you feel almost alone (in a nice way) as you relax into the start of your indulgent journey.
The philosophy behind this spa is to offer tailor made packages to suit your individual needs. I was met by the Spa Operations Manager, who proceeded to explain this concept to me. I then duly filled out the form given to me, which asked the normal questions of any injuries/complaints that the masseuse should know about. There were also some additional enquiries on the form, which I was surprised to see, but which I was later told was what sets this spa apart from the rest. These questions are designed to personalise your experience to ensure you receive the best service possible during your stay. I was able to choose from a music menu, offering classical or jazz tunes for example, as well as selecting the oil the therapist was going to use. You can choose between Balance, Relax or Energise, all of which are created by the Spa themselves. I instantly thought I would go for relax but after smelling the three scents I was much more drawn to the Balance oil. The spa manager informed me that this was made with geranium and had qualities to calm a busy mama’s life. It was perfect for someone who had stresses in different forms in their life, from home to work, kids to husbands (yes those other halves can also add to the strains of every day life, can’t they mamas?). I was led to meet my masseuse and my 1-hour of heaven started then.
First stop was a warm foot bath to soften and clean those tired feet. They bathe your feet in water with slices of lime, whilst you enjoy a cool lime sorbet and an exfoliating salt rub on your little tootsies. It was divine!
As I moved to the massage bed, the soft classical music started in the background and I felt my shoulders start to relax as I began to melt into an hour of bliss, on my own, with no children, no phone and no distractions. I had forgotten that not only do us mamas need some spoiling but also massages have huge medical benefits if you go to a real professional. I have a really bad back with a lot of knots under the shoulders, and an hour of deep tissue manipulation made me feel like a new woman, with certainly a lot less pain.
After the treatment, I had a quick chat with the Operations Manager again who informed me that the most popular and signature massage available is the Lime Intuitive which offers a unique bespoke experience created according to your personal preferences. Its aim is to liberate muscular stress, stimulate circulation and release a focused sense of balance. Something I need to try next time for sure. They also offer amazing packages. You can choose a Lime Ritual (150/180/210/240 minutes) and then create your own program, choosing from the intensive list of different treatments. Furthermore, you can enjoy couples therapies (my husband hates these but I think its quite romantic really), and last but by no means the least, the Kerstin Florian facials on offer produce outstanding results in anti ageing, hydrating and repairing.
I left the spa feeling fantastic. The strains of every day life had literally disintegrated by the minute and the treatment was worth every dirham. Although Lime Spa opened in 2008 (when the hotel opened) and has been around for a while, I was eager to remind everyone how good it really is. The trip down to Desert Palm almost feels like you are on holiday, and its not just the spa that’s enjoyable, you can enjoy a nice day at the pool or pony rides with the kids. I highly recommend Lime Spa as your first point of call though. Go on mamas, treat yourselves… because you’re worth it!
