So there are days when every mama wants to get out of her usual threads and get a complete style makeover (I guess we never grow tired of that ‘Cinderella’ type dream). The Sassy Mama team (4 mamas, 9 kids) did just that – we ditched the jeans and went all out on a mega makeover for the day, calling upon fashion blogger Tala Samman to help us with choosing some fab clothes from S*uce Boutique, Be Bar to style our locks and Make-up by Nishaa for getting rid of those dark circles under our sleep deprived eyes and putting the final touch on our look. And of course our wonderful photographer Steph was there to capture the whole thing (kiddie meltdowns and all!).
Psst… want to win a fabulous blow dry and make-up session? Read on mamas!
Want to know what to wear if you want to look and feel super sassy? Get your inspo from a fashion blogger – or in our case get the gorgeous Tala Samman of My Fash Diary, one of the coolest and most popular fashion blogs in the region to handpick your outfits! Thanks to the lovely ladies at S*uce boutique in Jumeirah Village Mall – we were given free reign to pretty much go nuts and try anything we liked (and OMG we loved it all). Tala selected a few pieces that she thought would best suit our shapes and personalities and then chose cute accessories to match. So much fun (had to keep reminding ourselves that sadly the clothes would need to be returned….)
If you need your hair to behave itself and to look AMAZING, then book into Be Bar Blow-dry Bar on the Jumeirah Beach Road. Owned by two mega Sassy Mamas, the gals here know all there is to know about styling your tresses. There are no cuts, colours or other salon stuff – they do blow-dries and the do them really well. Hidden behind a beautiful turquoise door, the boudoir-esque interior is gorgeous and friendly; there are flat beds at the sinks, head massages with every wash and (much needed) coffee, popcorn and delicious biscotti to complete the experience. The four of us have very different hair and styles and the ladies worked their magic to bring out the best in all of us while we gossiped and read mags. Bliss. And they didn’t mind the kids making themselves comfy either!
On most days, we’re lucky if we have time to slather on some chapstick and blot the shine before the school run. So when Nishaa, our super lovely make-up artist, asked what kind of look we wanted, the ‘natural’ option was quickly overruled in favour of smokey eyes and dramatic lipstick. A whizz with the mascara wand, Nishaa transformed our sleep deprived faces and smoothed out our skin, leaving us looking and feeling a million dirhams. Next time we’ve got a brunch plan or a special dinner date (hint hint husbands), a session with Nishaa and a blow-dry at Be Bar are on the agenda.
With nine kids between us aging from 2 years to 5 years, you can imagine what kind of crazy stuff was going on mamas! Our kids are very much part of the Sassy team – we drag them around the city in search of the best places to go and make them test out all sorts of activities and excursions, so that we can genuinely recommend them to our readers. Of course, they just had to be part of our makeover too (plus we just wanted to pick out some cute outfits from Saucette for them to try). Tala braved the bunch and got them dressed up in the most adorable pieces – pretty dresses and skirts for the girls and a mix of preppy and fun jackets for the boys. Getting them to stand still was another story… but they loved hamming it up for the camera!
We needed some evidence to show that we can actually scrub up quite well (and it might be a long time until we get to feel and look as special as we did again). Our amazing Sassy Mama photographer Steph is just brilliant at capturing the natural – no cheesy smiles or silly poses, just four mamas and nine kids having a lot of fun wearing gorgeous clothes, hanging out and being sassy!
