After a particularly stressful start to the week (you know the kind mamas, where the weekend feels like it never happened and all you want to do is crawl into bed for a few days), a girlfriend suggested we hit up a ladies night to make ourselves feel better. Yes! I thought, a night out on the town is just what we need – so I prepared to dust off the heels and get glammed up ….only to be told that we’d be meeting at SensAsia Urban Spa at Souk Al Manzil. Yes mamas, this was a ladies night with a difference – a pampering session for two (no not in a romantic couples type way) for the cost of only one, a buy-one-get-one-free on a choice of 90 minute signature treatments, and just what the doctor ordered.

After navigating the Downtown traffic and sending my stress levels through the roof, I finally arrived at SensAsia and felt instantly more relaxed as soon as I walked through the doors and the gorgeous essential oil smell hit me – I don’t know what it is that they use but I need some of that stuff at home! My spa partner, fellow mama and equally stressed friend was waiting, juice in hand and in a white fluffy robe – looking very pleased to be away from the computer and the kids for a while. Because as much as we love our little people, a little mama time is absolutely necessary and so important – if only to have a breather, regain some strength and sanity and be prepared to face the next day and the next tantrum!

Robed up, we made our way to dimly lit separate rooms where soft spa music played and a warmed white toweled beds awaited and our respective therapists asked us what we hoped to achieve from our treatments (better sleep, muscle relaxation, de-stress, all of the above!).  I had opted for a Balinese massage which is perfect for stress busting but could have gone for the Pillow Talk treatment to aid sleep or any of the other 90 minute treatments. A few minutes in and I was super cosy, mega relaxed and already feeling the benefits of the massage. My therapist, a lovely lady from Thailand, had perfected her strokes and knew exactly where to apply pressure, gently kneading out knots and tension. In fact she was so amazing that before I knew it I had drifted into a very deep sleep as the next thing I remember is being gently woken. Now sleep is precious to us mamas and any opportunity for a few extra winks is always good – I felt rejuvenated, my skin was enveloped in a beautiful smelling oil and there was no hint of the stress that I’d walked in the door with.

sensasiaAfter the treatment, I re-joined my friend in the chill out lounge, looking equally blissed out. We sat in silence for a while, sipping on herbal tea and munching crudité. This was exactly the kind of ladies night we needed – a little pampering and a big dose of time out from the daily grind, leaving us ready to face the remainder of the week and feeling sensasianal. The best kind of mama evening out we’ve had in ages!

Ladies night every Monday evening. Price from AED 460 for two.

‘Being a new Mum definitely comes with its challenges. I have moments that I completely love it and think I've got this Mum stuff down then comes the dreaded nights and I have moments that I doubt my capability to get through all the crying and tiredness.’ 💕💕💕💕. via @gemma_cheung - we can so relate, that’s motherhood summed up perfectly, an emotional roller coaster!
