You don’t have to sacrifice fashion for the little one! Here are some of the most stylish diaper bags around…

I have never been one for using a diaper (baby) bag – when I had my first child I swore I would still use my normal handbag. It might have been larger than my standard cross over satchel but it was still my own handbag and not something babyish! I managed to use my large black Alexander McQueen tote which was perfect as I could fit all my own bits and bobs in. Plus, I still had room for a baby change of clothes, nappies, wet wipes a bottle and sanitizer -as well as the mountain of stuff us mamas carry about on a daily basis.

Dani and kids

Fast forward to having three babies under 1 years of age and I had no choice but to give in and get a baby bag but there were a few conditions – it had to be cool enough for my hubby to carry, which meant no flowers and definitely no bright pink!

I was on a mission to find the perfect baby bag (and taking into consideration my husband’s check list) I found the one that would work for me, my other half, three babies and I am pleased to say I still use today and love – it does remind me of Mary Poppins handbag – you know the one where she pulls out a lamp stand, mirror, hat rack etc – the obvious things a nanny of the Banks family would carry! And here it is…

The Storksak in tan leather from John Lewis (AED 100) fitted the bill perfectly.

So what’s in my baby bag today?

For 3 kids under 3.5 years a trip out requires the following (at least) – and all fits perfectly in my baby bag!

Nappies, wet wipes, spare dummies (mute buttons) underwear for the girls, 3 pairs of shorts just in case, 3 water bottles. 3 pairs of socks ready for a visit to cheeky monkeys, a mountain of snacks and many mini hand sanitizers!

Other baby bags I love:

I asked a couple of sassy mamas to share what they carry around in their baby bags:

Kat and poppy

Kat Lebrasse and her little girl Poppy

My diaper bag is Marc by Marc Jacobs, the Crosby quilt nylon elizababy in black. My husband bought it in the U.S. while traveling for work.

It contains:

  • a Zara Home change mat
  • 5-6 diapers
  • sudocrem
  • hand sanitizer
  • 2 changes of clothes for Poppy
  • a change of top for me
  • 1 Aden & Anais muslin swaddle wrap
  • 5 burp cloths
  • 1 bib
  • plastic bag roll for dirty diapers
  • breastpads for me
  • 1 nuk pacifier

Danielle and Lux

Stylist for Gulf News magazines Danielle Elmes Hughes and her little girl Lux Valentina

I have the melobaby from baby souk that I use in a large Cos washable soft bucket bag. I couldn’t find a diaper bag that would match Lux’s pram and all of her and my outfits. This one from Cos is plain black and will not only go with everything but one that my husband is happy to carry! The melobaby diaper tidy has been a god send. Great for traveling. Lux has clocked up 6 flights in her 5 months and it saved me lugging a huge bag as well as Lux into the tiny airplane toilets whilst traveling alone!

Nappies, wipes, nappy sacs, bepanthen nappy ointment, a change of clothes, spare pacifiers, hand sanitizer (for me), her fav soft bunny, muslin burp cloth and a small blanket for air conditioned indoors! a mini aptamal ready to use formula in a disposable sterilized bottle (for emergencies) and several avent bottles ready to mix up. We try to keep it as minimal as possible!

My diaper bag is Beau and Elliot Confetti Change Bag. They’re a UK brand. It was a present from my husband’s cousin Ali. He got it online Emirates High Street.

What’s in my diaper bag:

  • Diapers
  • wipes
  • toys
  • change of clothes
  • socks
  • milk (comes with an insulated pocket for keeping milk warm)
  • mustela bath gel (don’t ask why!)
  • Dentinox gel
  • Adol

Whatever your style, there’s a baby bag out there to suit you mamas!
