Viceroy Bali: A Sassy Mama goes Babymooning in the Valley of the Kings

TravelPost Category - TravelTravel - Post Category - Long HaulLong Haul

With D-day fast approaching, I felt the need to take advantage of the quickly growing trend… the Babymoon! Otherwise known as just another excuse for a romantic getaway with your other half, the Babymoon is essentially the very last holiday you take with your partner before your baby arrives (but honestly aren’t we all just looking for a good enough reason for a luxury weekend away?). I know I was, and that’s where Viceroy Bali fit the bill nicely.

If you haven’t been to Bali in recent months you will be delightfully surprised to arrive at the brand new Bali International Airport (and to no longer be greeted by 1 million scooters upon walking out into the old arrival parking lot!). Viceroy Bali is located in the tranquil hills of Ubud, which to our pleasant surprise only took a bit over an hour to get to from the new airport. And since I am sure you are all wondering, Viceroy Bali even has its own private heliport for those seeking a super quick and extravagant arrival and departure.

Viceroy Bali, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, is comprised of 25 Balinese-style private pool villas that overlook the stunning Valley of the Kings. The villas are grand and inviting with amazingly spacious deluxe bathrooms. Once you are tucked away in your private oasis you would never know that eclectic Ubud was just a few minutes up the road. And to be fair, we would have been quite happy to never leave our private pool and inviting balé (Balinese gazebo) that was perched over the edge of our infinity pool. However, my husband and I are not very good at just laying by the pool all day (ha!) so we made it our mission to venture into town several times during our stay. The fact that is was super easy to get there by free private shuttle service made it even better!

During our stay, we were sure to take advantage of the lovely views and open air dining at on-site CasCades Restaurant. We had a lovely lunch one afternoon of various small plates of Balinese-style dishes. Delish! We also enjoyed pre-dinner cocktails (well kiddy cocktails for this pregnant mama!) at the bar, which even had a cute piano man playing one evening.

I am pretty sure that by definition a babymoon must always include spa treatments and so we took full advantage of the hotel’s Lembah Spa every single day. Greeted each time by kind and ever-smiling staff, I thoroughly enjoyed selecting a different fragrant massage oil each time I went – Frangipani, Ginger, Lemongrass, oh my! All were good and all helped a pregnant mama r…e…l…a…x into a state of pure bliss.

We left Viceroy Bali feeling relaxed, spoilt and a tad bit sad knowing this may well be the very last relaxing holiday we have for a long time, just the two of us. Heaven help us once the baby arrives!
