Now that we are (kind of) done with back-to-school, it’s time to take out our weekend planner! From The Pearl Fishers at Dubai Opera to sing-along story time, there’s LOTS you can do with the fam!
The Pearl Fishers at Dubai Opera
Kick off the first weekend of September with a family-friendly opera evening! Written by Georges Bizet and performed by Fondazione Teatro Lirico “Giuseppe Verdi”, Trieste, The Pearl Fishers is set in ancient times on the island of Ceylon. The story centres around two friends, who vow to never let the love of a woman come between them and destroy their friendship. The renowned and deeply moving Pearl Fishers duet is just one of the highlights from the beautiful score that you wouldn’t want to miss!

Dopehri
Introducing you to one of the most entertaining one-man show! Dopehri is set in the streets of Lucknow where sits the Haveli of an old, lonely woman, Amma Bi. Written, directed and narrated by the much-awarded actor, Pankaj Kapur, Dopehri is a delightful tale of a woman in command of her life and her journey from loneliness to self-discovery despite being past her prime. Grab your ticket for this theatre experience like no other!

Sing along Story Time
Join Bookish.ae for a fun family story-time and sing-along! It might be hard to believe but this event is FREE for the entire 2016 Reading Year (sessions are held the first Saturday of every month). Expect readings of classic children’s stories as well as new favourites. In between stories, there’ll be lots of singing, rhyming, and dancing to keep the little ones excited. What’s more? How about a craft activity that coordinates with a book read during the session for kiddies to get creative? Be sure to sign up on their Facebook page as this activity is limited to 20 families!

Back-To-School-Bazaar
Mark your diaries for the Dubai Arabian American Private School Back-To-School Market day, mama! If you haven’t done enough back-to-school shopping, here’s your chance to grab some last minute school supplies! You can easily spend half a day at this market as there’ll be kids play area and bouncy castles for the restless ones and giveaway surprises that you wouldn’t want to miss!

The Barber of Seville at Dubai Opera
Sometimes all you need is a good laugh! Head over to Dubai Opera and take part in one of the greatest comic operas ever composed, The Barber of Seville centres on the adventures of handsome young Count Almaviva as he courts the lovely Rosina in spite of her jealous guardian’s attempts to stop him. Will he succeed? Find out how the scheming barber, and jack-of-all-trades, Figaro, helps him in this journey of love!
