A few of our favourite things to do this weekend

This is not just another weekend, mama (and it should never be!). There’s so much happening around the desert city and we’re excited to share our favourite picks with you…

smdxb-food-truckHangry Hangar Indoor Food Truck

Mobile pop-up food trucks are officially a thing in the UAE! Hangry Hangar is a concept coming to Al Quoz’s Warehouse Four, where six food trucks will be serving up a range of dishes for a limited time – and all from the comfort of indoors. Catch breakfast, lunch or dinner from six independent eateries surrounded by air con (and free WiFi!) where you won’t sweat into your shawarma. Think tender beef sliders, jam-packed burgers, and truffle fries (plus live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 8pm till late) – bring the fam over!

When: Wednesday, 10 August 10 – Saturday, 3 September (8am to midnight on weekends)
Where: Warehouse 4, Al Quoz, Dubai

smdxb-museumSaruq Al-Hadid Museum

If you’re looking for something different to do other than the mall and the beach this weekend (we agree sometimes it’s hard to get tired of these two), here’s another indoor inspo for you, mama! This newly opened museum in Dubai’s historical district displays a stunning range of artefacts unearthed from a new archeological dig at Saruq Al Hadid and takes you through the mysterious route of archaeological discoveries. Littles can get hands-on with culture and reconstruct a pot, assemble an animal skeleton, or even help the experts solve a mystery – don’t miss this chance to learn more about the story of Dubai!

When: Wednesday 27 July – end of September 2019
Where: Shindaga District, Dubai
How much: Free entry for adults over 60 and kiddies up to 6 years, Individual: AED 20 Kiddies 7-12 years: AED 10

smdxb-barastiRio Olympics at BARASTI

There’re so many ways to do Rio Olympics but nowhere does it quite like Barasti Beach Bar. Boasting a vast new outdoor seating area and massive screens both in a giant air-conditioned tent and on the beach, it’s truly the place to be as the atmosphere hits fever pitch during the Rio Olympics. So get yourself to Barasti for the sports, and enjoy a mix of great music and delicious food with the fam against the stunning backdrop of Dubai Marina.

When: Monday, 1 August – Monday,22 August
Where: Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, Al Sufouh Road, Jumeirah Beach, Dubai

smdxb-penn-masalaPenn Masala Live

Here’s a little inspo for a special concert night with the fam! The World’s First and Premier South Asian A Cappella Group, Penn Masala is coming to UAE for their very first live performance. Penn Masala are known for traversing traditional cultural boundaries and their music captures the experience of growing up with the amalgam of these cultures. If you’re already wondering what’s on their playlist, a mash-up of Coldplay’s Fix You and AR Rahman’s Ishq Bina are not to be missed!

When: Saturday, 20 August
Where: Centrepoint Theatre, DUCTAC, Dubai
How much: AED 200 – AED 10000

smdxb-virtual-reality‘Travel Around the World’ Virtual Reality Game

Imagine visiting London’s Big Ben, Paris’ Eiffel Tower, the Egyptian Pyramids and New York’s Statue of Liberty all at once…it’s all made possible! City Centre Deira and City Centre Mirdif are hosting a second immersive game, ‘Travel Around the World’ which invites kiddies to enter a simulated world. Using state of the art technology, ‘Travel Around the World’ challenges players to fly across the globe on a hand glider high above some of the world’s most famous landmarks while sitting in an actual glider steering their way through the sky while fans create the feeling of wind – probs the only way to make your restless littles sit down for a bit!

Where: City Centre Deira and City Centre Mirdif, Dubai
