Where to meet other Mamas in Dubai

Family LifePost Category - Family LifeFamily Life

Whether you’re new to Dubai or just new to Mamahood, you might be on the look out for places to meet new friends in a similar position to you. Here’s the run down on a few great places you can start with.

Mall Walkers
Many of the malls run their own ‘mall walkers’ programmes where ladies can get together once or twice a week to meet new people and exercise in the comfort of the air conditioned mall. The walks usually take place early morning before the shops are open so you needn’t fear being the subject to the stares of onlookers and of course the smooth floors are the perfect strolling territory if you have a little person in a pram or pushchair you’d like to (or need to) bring along. Enquire with your local mall for details.

Cafés about town
There’s plenty of cafés around the city that are very family friendly and hold regular events where you and your little ones can both make new friends. Take a look at the Mellow Yellow bakeshop and café in Mirdif that holds monthly themed events on weekends including cup cake decorating, pizza making and more to keep the kids amused. Another favourite in the city is Bookmunch Café where you can attend or volunteer yourself to read at regular reading sessions for babies and children.

Facebook
Whilst Facebook might not strike you as the first place you might easily meet likeminded ladies, many residential communities in the city have their own Mums pages including Marina Mums, Mirdif Mums and Fun with Green Mums for Mums in The Greens area. If it’s mums from your home country that you’re keen to meet then also search for pages such as British Mums Dubai. These pages are not only a valuable source of local information and support for new mums or mums new to the area, but they will keep you up to date on family events in the locale and often hold their own meet ups within their respective communities too. Check out Facebook for your nearest group to get involved in.

Baby Friendly fitness
If you’re looking to shape up, you might like to get your sweat on and meet new friends at the same time! Pure Fitness holds a number of classes that are suitable for mums and mums to be looking to get some exercise and mingle with other mums without having to leave baby at home. Classes include BuggEfit which takes place outdoors during the cooler months and RIP MUM which focuses on those bits that took the hardest beating during pregnancy. Soft Play areas
There are a whole host of soft play areas in the city and many of them have their own cafés where you can sit and relax while your little one runs riot and maybe make a few likeminded friends over coffee while you’re at it. Minimonsters on Sheikh Zayed Road is great for Tuesday morning budget play between 9am and 2pm as it won’t cost you a penny, while Kiddies Café in JLT has free wifi to keep parents entertained and even organises coffee mornings and movie nights. Mirdif City Centre is not only home to the much-loved Little Explorers, but also offers a unique ladies day every Monday from 9am to 2pm where you and your girlfriends (or the new ones you’re going to meet) can take advantage of a host of discounts and special offers.
