Browsing pinterest for kids room inspiration and being seriously wowed by IKEA hacks is one of our favourite pastimes – and so many of the world’s coolest interior designers are well known for mixing customized pieces from our fave Swedish superstore into their gorgeous abodes (remember how awesome the VITTSJÖ shelving units look sprayed gold?!).
From a lick of paint to a little more – but all without masses of effort required (particularly in a wonderful city like Dubai where you can get everything made/fixed up quickly and easily), these are just 5 ways in which to transform an already brilliant piece of IKEA furniture into something even better for your kids. A little wooden DUKTIG play kitchen is cute enough but with a chic grey finish and other little tweaks, this simple product takes on some serious personality (frankly we’d love a big kitchen like it.). We’re sure most of you will have some kind of Kallax shelving unit in your homes, mamas – and while they’re super useful for storing all kinds of stuff, they’re also pretty awesome when used as a bench! Yes, you read that right. Simply buy the 42cm x 147 cm unit, lie it on its side and then pop to Satwa for foam and fabric to get made up into a cushion or just fashion one yourselves by slotting a piece of MDF inside and using a staple gun. So easy, so cheap, so sassy.

Simply space your ALEX units out evenly, place non-slip mats on top, place countertop on top of those et voila! Perfect for harmonious homework sessions (here’s hoping…).
