The Toothbrush For Tiny Pearly Whites (& For Teething Babies Too!)

We know how important it is to get the kids brushing their teeth – but even with all the nagging, the rush for school in the morning or craziness of the bedtime routine can mean that those pearly whites don’t get much brush time.

With my littlest (aged 4) recently being diagnosed with ‘weak tooth enamel’ at a routine dentist visit (cue mega mama guilt…), I decided to step up to my tooth brushing responsibilities and find ways to make the whole thing more fun and more effective too. First up? The toothbrush! We’ve always opted for anything with cartoon figures in the hope that they’ll inspire some brushing action BUT I have found something much, much better.

Issa Mikro toothbrush for healthy kids teeth

The ISSA Mikro is the only baby electric toothbrush which combines silicone bristles with gentle sonic pulses – specifically designed for the smallest of brushers, from infancy up to the age of 5. Made by FOREO (they’re Swedish by the way which means gorgeous design but also a really trustworthy product), the brush comes in lots of cute colours (we opted for ‘sunflower yellow’) and tonnes of features which make brushing fun. Firstly, taking the Mikro into the bath is not a problem as the whole thing is covered in silicone, making it completely waterproof and safe – yay! And then there are the super cute little happy and sad faces (Glee and Glum) which light up and show us when she’s done brushing or if she needs to try again. And if, like me, you’re not a fan of plastic waste then the fact that the head only needs to be replaced every year is a mega plus – as is the fact that you only need to charge the brush for an hour (with a USB cable!) for it to last for weeks and weeks, perfect if you’re a busy mama who forgets to do things like charge up devices (guilty…).

If you’ve got a teething bubba in the house then this brush will also help to sooth sore gums, gently massaging them with its soft silicone bristles – I wish it had been around when all of mine were cutting teeth and feeling miserable.

And after age 5? There’s the ISSA Mini to carry on with all the good work, oh and there are adult versions too if you’re feeling really flush (these toothbrushes aren’t cheap…. but they’re definitely worth it and you won’t be buying disposables every month.).

So, with the toothbrush sorted, here are some other products to make brushing more fun!

Toothpaste:

I love the Jack N Jill range of natural calendula toothpastes with organic flavours including banana, blackcurrant and raspberry (makes my kids want to brush their teeth at every opportunity) available at Organic Foods and Café
