Hair Colour Sorted. Mama Goes Blonde(r) At Pastels

Ever find that your roots (as in hair) are suddenly beyond acceptable – like, overnight?! One day my hair was ok, the next it was simply unbearable so I decided that a highlights session was necessary and asked some of my blondie friends for recommendations. I have my usual faves when it comes to salons but I’m also curious and trying something new is always appealing – particularly when some of the aforementioned friends have such gorgeously sunkissed looks. The vote of the day? Pastels Salon, one of Dubai’s best-known and loved hair and beauty salon brands (and the secret to many a mamas perfectly golden hues!).

With salons across Dubai (the main flagship is in Jumeirah) Pastels is convenient for pretty much everyone – and with a little bit of grocery shopping to do (and a need to visit Top Shop…sshhh), I headed to their Mercato Mall branch for my appointment. Tucked away behind a little door just near to Milk & Honey, the salon is bright and spacious – actually much bigger than you’d expect from outside.

After the usual chat about my hair, how much I hate it, how it’s all fallen out since having babies and how the sun seems to make it a particularly lovely shade of luminous yellow, my stylist reassured me that she’d be toning everything down and making the colour more natural plus giving my cut a bit of a refresh too. Perfect. Professional, friendly and genuinely caring too, I was in great hands which meant a delicious latte, good magazine and instagram catch-up was on the cards.

Fast forward just under and hour and I was at the sink – on a lie-flat bed (yes, the sinks here are just one reason to come – being horizontal for a few blissful minutes as my head was massaged was exactly what I needed before heading out for the school pick-up!). And a quick trim and blowdry later, I was ready to face the world again but this time without hideous roots and with a beautiful blonde colour and some gorgeously natural looking highlights.

The verdict? Perfect. Pastels has definitely made it onto the ‘salons to trust’ list, mamas! Oh and they do mani/pedis and all your other beauty treatments too…
