Love, hate or tolerate them; playrooms are an essential part of surviving mamahood in Dubai during the scorching summer months and one of our favourites, Le Petit Palais, is offering up a summer camp for kids aged 3-10 years old. Or rather, they are offering mamas a chance to drop off their little ones for a couple of hours of supervised play, adult-led group activities and soft play tumbles with lunch included in a fun and safe environment. Daily or weekly running until August 28th, it’s the perfect option for mamas in need of some alone time, mall time or just get-stuff-done time.

As soon as school was out, my panic set in about getting everything ready for our holiday, and so I decided my boys were going to camp out at Le Petit Palais for two full days. One the first day I dropped them off at 10am and they both ran straight in without saying goodbye (it’s starting to become a habit). I must have looked a bit puzzled because one of the lovely staff members jazzed up and reassured me that they were going to have a great time, which they totally did! So… of I went, wishing for no call backs and a productive day.

When I arrived back at 3pm (yippee!) to pick them up they had been fed pizza and pasta as well as the snack I sent in, face painted (hand painted for my youngest one), enjoyed mad science activities and made a really cute octopus out of paper plates and tissue paper – you know the kind of stuff we all intended to do with our kids before we became parents…

My boys also told me that they’d had fun doing brain gym stuff which I think is code for flashcards and math activities. Most popular? Hands down the dancing session. My eldest had been rocking around getting his moves on for almost an hour, while my youngest had been bouncing off the walls in the soft play area. Needless to say bedtime was a breeze that night… The second day of camp was more of the same fun and again a mega-hit with the kids. I say no to mama guilt and yes to having someone else help out for a couple of days!

Camp runs from 10am-3pm Sunday-Thursday and costs Dhs120 per day for members, Dhs140 per day for nonmembers, Dhs550 per week for members and Dhs650 per week for non-members. To reserve a place for your child, email: info@lepetitpalaisdubai.com or call 04 382 7333 ext. 2754 or drop by.
